Do Not Overlook The Importance of Handheld Metal Detectors

There aren’t many devices that can boast the ability to actually save a life and more often than not these products are tragically overlooked. When you consider how affordable many of these life-saving devices are and how extremely easy they are to use it makes their lack of use that much more tragic. Take seat belts for example, so often we hear of fatal auto accidents involving someone losing their life because they failed to do something as simple as reach over and put their seat belt on. Helmets are another potentially life-saving device that goes overlooked all too often. In my knucklehead state, Illinois, the law requires you wear a seat belt but does not require you wear a helmet when operating a motorcycle. As is to be expected I see a great number of motorcyclists cruising about town with their hair flowing in the wind. Should any of these people get in an accident their chances of survival drop immeasurably because they chose to not wear such a helmet and I pray that these people understand the risks they are taking before it is too late.

Handheld metal detectors are no different than seat belts and helmets in so much as they are an item that can easily be implemented to ensure people’s safety but are all too often overlooked. I have been to more than enough events with multiple unknown attendees, where no security scanning device of any kind was used at the door. This to me seems ludicrous, especially in a day and age where random acts of gun violence can take place anywhere at any time and to anyone. Even if a promoter cared little for the safety of his or her attendees or put little value in human life it would still behoove the promoter to implement security scanning devices like handheld metal detectors so as to avoid the possibility of a potential lawsuit resulting from someone being hurt or killed by a weapon at their event.

Handheld metal detectors also offer not only a more thorough security scan than the old ‘pat down’ method of checking for weapons but also a much faster and socially comfortable method of scanning entrants into any event. If you have ever been to a concert, sporting event or any large gathering where the entrants were being patted down by hand by security you are all too well aware of how long the process can take and how uncomfortable it might be for both the event attendees and the security personnel as well.

So please, if you are planning an event of any size and you know there will be attendees whom you do not personally know, acquire an affordable and reliable handheld metal detector.

Please Don’t Use Metal Detectors If You Want People To Get Shot At Your Next Event

I don’t want to tell you how to organize your party or event but I can offer one very valuable tip to any event organizer that would like to be sued for everything he or she owns with a wrongful death lawsuit and that is to make sure they do not implement the use of handheld metal detectors at each and every entrance. Not having a reliable handheld metal detector at the door is a great way to ensure that someone sneaks in with a weapon of some kind. After all nobody can be shot or stabbed at your next event if nobody smuggles in a gun or knife with which to do so. And it’s going to make it impossible for someone to smuggle in a knife or gun if you’ve got pesky security guards protecting the well-being of attendees by scanning everyone at the door. The best way to make sure somebody receives a mortal injury while at your event is to simply let a multitude of strangers in and just hope that nobody has brought a weapon.

Certainly you should not use a trusted name in the industry like Garrett as that brand is so reliable it is used by security details, law enforcement and military personnel worldwide. A Garret handheld metal detector is so highly sensitive it can pick up even the most trace amounts of metal and would easily detect even the smallest of weapons and then nobody would be getting shot or stabbed. They are self-calibrating which means that unlike less reliable models they do not need to have their sensitivity settings constantly adjusted, great if you want to keep your guests safe and sound and not be sued, horrible if you want utter chaos, multiple gun shots and a monster law suit.

Okay, obviously this article is ridiculous and I am clearly being sarcastic but what I find truly ridiculous is that anyone would organize a major event in this day and age and not use simple, affordable and reliable technology to ensure the safety of their guests. Having a major event and then neglecting to keep the guests that attend safe in a simple and cost effective manner is both ignorant and wholly irresponsible. If you are a promoter you should make sure than any security detail you hire has one of these if for no other reason that the legal ramifications of someone being hurt or killed at your event because such security measures were ignored.

Why You Shouldn’t Buy Cheap Handheld Metal Detectors

In this life there are certain things you can skimp on and in the world’s current economic state I strongly suggest that you do just that. I personally buy generic whenever spending more on the name brand is not advantageous enough to be worth spending the extra dollars and let me tell you, that happens a lot. Toilet paper doesn’t have to be name brand so why spend the extra money. Over the Counter medications? Forget about name brand when you are literally throwing your money away on the exact same drugs you are getting in the generic brand. I don’t remember when the last time I bought name brand cereal was and don’t understand why anybody does. Nobody should be drinking soda but if anyone does and they don’t buy generic I am at a loss for words, it’s all just sugar anyway. The price of batteries borders on insane yet so many people choose Duracell or Energizer when there is usually a much cheaper alternative generic battery sitting on the same shelf and at a fraction of the price. Sure the Duracell’s may last a bit longer but is it worth it when the batteries cost almost 3 times as much in some cases?

My point in all of this is that there are some things you can save on and going generic isn’t going to be a matter of life and death. If the paper towels you bought aren’t quite as absorbent as the name brand and it takes an extra towel to clean up some spilled milk is that really going to have a profound impact on anybody? Is it something you are going to spend even a split second pondering over? Probably not.

What if the product in question is one that could literally mean the difference between life and death? That sounds like a product you would never want to skimp on and handheld metal detectors are certainly one of those products. If there is a concert or sporting event where a substandard security scanning device is being used and it malfunctions, allowing someone with a gun to enter the premises, the consequences could be tragic. Human lives could potentially be lost and there is no price tag on a human life and as such anyone considering holding an event of any kind should absolutely buy only the best when it comes to these devices. Garrett metal detectors, for example, are the handheld metal detectors that professional security, law enforcement and the U.S. military has been using for almost half a century now. That’s a pretty darn good indicator that Garrett is the brand to trust and the one you should use if your guests safety means anything to you whatsoever.

Handheld Metal Detectors Help Keep Major Events Safe

Handheld metal detectors are an absolute must at any gathering of substantial size or where the attendees are not familiar to one another. This not only ensures the safety of guests in attendance, it can also help protect the promoter from being held liable should a situation arise where an attendee was injured by a weapon of some sort that would have otherwise been detected. You see handheld metal detectors almost everywhere these days. From airports, to concerts to sporting events, authorities and promoters alike are taking careful measures and implementing the use of handheld metal detectors to ensure the safety of their guests. And as technology in every field continues to grow exponentially so does handheld metal detector technology. The super expensive, bulky, time consuming walk-through models of the past are being replaced with the much more cost effective handheld devices you now see.

There are several different brands of handheld metal detectors but if you want to know what the pros use (and hence what is the best brand available) I’ll tell you with zero reservation that it is undoubtedly Garrett. There is a reason that professional law enforcement will use a particular brand and that is because it works. There is little point in purchasing and using a substandard device when the implications of doing so could be ever so dire. Use a second rate metal detector that doesn’t detect a small blade that one of the concert goers is carrying and you could very well have a fatality on your hands. Aside from the obvious and tragic loss of life, a promoter may very well be held legally liable for this person’s untimely and unfortunate death as some negligence could be proven if the promoter knew a substandard device was being used to protect his or her guests.

My favorite of the bunch is the Garrett superwand. This device is the lightest of any I’ve actually held at just over 18 ounces. It also has two alarm modes, one that is audible if any metal object is detected and one that is silent and simply vibrates when metal is detected. You can purchase rechargeable batteries for this device (and most Garrett handheld devices) but a simple 9 volt battery will give you 80-plus hours of continuous use. This handheld metal detector will also operate at full capacity in the harshest of elements, from -35º F (-37º C) to 158º F (70º C) (perfect for outdoor sporting events in the winter or concerts in the summer). If the temperature is outside of that range i think you’ve got bigger problems to deal with.

So please implement the use of a handheld metal detector if you are planning on holding an event of any size and help ensure that each of your attendees enjoys their time and makes it home safely.

Tips On Having a Successful Party: Always Have Handheld Metal Detectors

Do you live to party and party to live? Well then you may find this list of top party fouls very useful. Everyone loves that guy who is still at the party at 3 in the morning, wearing a lampshade on his head and singing bad karaoke. You know who nobody like? The guy who takes out a high caliber revolver and shoots everybody. That guy is a real buzz kill, trust me. So without further ado here are some helpful tips on having a successful party…

Tip #1 – Always have enough food and beverages for your guests. Nothing is more annoying than being at a party and not having enough to drink, except being shot.

Tip #2 – Do not allow people to be over-served. Although we all love that guy with the lampshade on his head, it is probably in his best interest and the best interest of all guests attending if nobody at the party is fall-down drunk. Or stabbed to death.

Tip #3 – If you are having an outdoor party please remember to have enough tents to ensure everyone stays dry in the event of inclement weather. Dry and not bleeding to death from multiple gunshot wounds is a great way to spend time at a party.

Tip #4 – Theme your party. Nothing is more entertaining than having everyone show up in attire based on a particular theme. Some ideas for a theme party could be 80′s night, come-as-you-are, celebrity look alike, Hawaiian themed, Patriotic, Mardi Gras, or my favorite, a not-stabbed-in-any-vital-organs theme. This is where everyone comes dressed in clothes that are not soaked in their own blood because they haven’t been fatally stabbed at your party.

Tip #5 – If the party is a surprise party be sure to be extra careful when sending out invites so that nobody spills the beans when speaking to the guest of honor. Also, make sure that nobody shoots the guest of honor at your party because that will just ruin it.

Tip # 6 – Don’t stab or shoot anyone at the party. I think we’ve been over this but just to be very clear, when someone is shot or stabbed at a party it can often ruin the party not just for the person who has been shot but for everyone in general.

Tip #7 – For crying out loud, if you are planning on having a party or event of any kind and value and respect human life you will acquire a handheld metal detector to help protect the well-being of your guests.

I hope this has helped.

Ode to Handheld Metal Detectors

If you are a promoter that is planning on holding an event where there will be any number of people attending you may want to strongly consider implementing the use of one or more (depending on the size of the event) handheld metal detectors. Metal detectors provide an effective, yet cost-effective, means of protecting the people in attendance. My love for these instruments is so great that I have written another poem to express this love and so I present to you…

Ode to Handheld Metal Detectors, A Poem by Carl Vouer

I love a good concert and also a show,

Where there are big crowds I will likely go.

I am a people person and of this there is no doubt,

I love to party, let loose, to scream and to shout.

My only concern when at a concert is this,

That nobody gets in without a stamp on their wrist.

This stamp will confirm that a security check has been run,

And nobody is sneaking in with a knife or a gun.

I love partying all night at a club that is hot,

But would much rather do so without being shot.

I would much rather spend the night engulfed in dance,

Than bleeding profusely in the back of an ambulance.

It’s just so enjoyable when you have the peace of mind,

Knowing nobody in attendance is going to commit a crime.

For a promoter to ignore this most basic of needs,

Would be a critical oversight or one of much greed.

A promoter should consider security the utmost importance,

Especially to stay in most state law accordance.

A great thing about handheld metal detectors is that they come cheap,

Keep your attendees safe from harm and at night you can sleep.

Knowing you did your part to be a good host,

And not a cheap scumbag, but someone we should toast.

Most handheld detectors need no player hating,

As they are so easy to use as they are self-calibrating.

Their ultra-sensitivity makes them impossible to fool,

For attendees that come to straight act a fool.

They can detect a handgun from almost a foot,

So you can weed out a catastrophe at its root.

Whether the concert is for Donny Osmond or Slayer,

Your guest’s safety won’t hinge on a wing and a prayer.

So do the right thing and get this handheld device,

Or something will happen and it won’t be nice.

Someone may be hiding a gun or knife in their shoe,

But they’ll never get in and guests can thank you.

Carl Vouer

Handheld Metal Detectors for Security Guards, Bouncers and Anyone Who Doesn’t Like Being Shot

I have done my share of partying but if you were to ask me what my favorite party of all time was I would have to say it is a tie between all the parties where I was not fatally shot or stabbed. Not being shot, stabbed or beaten to near-death with a lead pipe is one of my favorite parts about any party, concert or event where a large number of attendees are gathered. Being shot, stabbed or clubbed into unconsciousness is a real drag and can really affect your mood so I try not to avoid these things by only attending events where there is a security guard or bouncer with a handheld metal detector checking patrons at the door.

Anyone planning an event of any kind without considering security for that event is an individual waiting to be sued and riddled with guilt in the event that something horrible happens. You could have 10,000 law-abiding, friendly, happy-go-lucky people at a concert and all it takes is one low-life jerk to destroy the entire event. Not taking the necessary measures to safeguard your event from these wrongdoers is to do yourself and your guests a huge disservice, especially when the necessary measures to be taken are so easy and affordable. For about the same price as 2 moderately prices concert tickets you can purchase a handheld metal detector which can quickly scan all guests and ensure that the event to take place does not have anyone in attendance that is carrying a dangerous weapon.

Handheld metal detectors are certainly a much more affordable alternative to the standing walk-through models often seen in schools, hospitals and airports. Even on the cheap side these walk-through models can run you thousands of dollars. Also, a handheld model can be every bit as effective as its larger and more expensive counterpart. The Garrett brand of security scanners for example can detect a medium sized pistol from 9” distance; a large knife from 6”; a razor blade and box cutters from 3” distance; and foil-wrapped drugs and tiny jewelry from 1”. That particular brand comes with a large 8 inch scan surface for quick, thorough scanning at an event with many attendees. Most quality metal detector scanners are self-calibrating, meaning that the digital microprocessor technology inside eliminates the need for periodic sensitivity adjustments.

So if you are a club owner, concert promoter or just anyone who is planning on holding an event for multiple people, please consider obtaining a handheld metal detector. Your patrons may not thank you but they are much less apt to sue you when they don’t get shot at your next event.

Handheld Metal Detectors Are the Life of the Party

Handheld metal detectors are the life of the party. They are the first ones to arrive and the last ones to leave and they never take a rest during that whole time. They don't care how loud the music is or how crowded the dance floor gets. Not only that but they make sure that all of the guests in attendance party in a responsible manner. They don't care if some of the party guests have one too many cocktails (hopefully these people aren't driving home) they just want to ensure none of these party people go and do something stupid like bring a gun or knife to the shindig. Nothing will put a damper on the festivities like multiple shooting fatalities.

Garrett is the leading brand in the metal detecting industry and their handheld metal detectors have been the life of the party for over 20 years now. They are a must have for parties, clubs, concerts and anywhere a large group of people plan on getting together for any reason. These metal detectors can pick up even the tracest amount of metal, be it something harmless like an earring or something much less harmless like drugs wrapped in tin foil. Only a fool would try to carry a gun or knife into an event where people are being scanned with a Garrett metal detector. Their handheld detectors can pick up a pocket knife from more than half a foot away. Perhaps best of all these devices are all self-calibrating, meaning that no adjustments or tweaks to the sensitivity levels need ever be made. Just turn these party animals on and scan away.

I have faith in humanity as a whole but the fact remains that there are some deviant psychos out there that have no qualms about bring a weapon to a crowded event and using that weapon to harm others. If all of this can be prevented simply by making a small investment and purchasing a handheld metal detector and using it then why not take that step? I actually think it should be a law that anytime a planned event will hold more than 25 people a metal detector should be mandatory. These days there are just too many shooting incidents and random acts of violence for something as simple as implementing metal detectors to be ignored. Many inner-city schools use walk t metal detectors but there is rarely such precautionary measure taken at school in upper class neighborhoods. I think by now we all know that no school is immune to acts of violence.

So please consider obtaining one of these devices yourself should you be planning an event.

Handheld Metal Detectors and Event Security Go Together Like Peanut Butter and Jelly

If one attempts to discuss planning an event and the security for that event without bringing up the topic of handheld metal detectors than that person is what is commonly referred to as ‘soft in the head’. Something is wrong with that person mentally is what I mean to say. How could one possibly consider the event they have planned to be safe for their guests if they do not know for sure whether one or more of those guests might be carrying a concealed weapon. And I certainly think that we are well past the day in age where we can say “well that would never happen at one of my events”. Horrible tragedies as a result of firearms happen each and every day and they can happen to anyone at any time in any place.

That is why anyone planning an event that will have even one person they do not know in attendance better seriously consider having on hand at least one handheld metal detector to ensure the safety of their guests. I don’t even play games anymore with my parties. My son will be 3 in February and my wife and I have decided to have his next party at the Rainforest Cafe. He loves it there and so I will go ahead and spend way too much time and money making sure my son has an enjoyable, and more importantly safe, birthday experience. There will be a bunch of kids I do know and others I know only vaguely. Guess what? They are getting a once over with the metal detector. I don’t care what they think. You’re good enough to come eat the food I bought for you and drink the drinks I’m paying for you’re going to get a once over with the metal detector believe you me. 3 year old? metal detector. 30 years old? Bet your free-loading behind you’re getting the metal detector. 90 years old? Don’t start no ruckus won’t be no ruckus, grandma. Now shuffle over here and let me wave the detector over that big old hand purse of yours.

I know I make jokes a lot and I don’t honestly intend on bringing a metal detector to a birthday party but in all honesty if I saw someone else do it I would oblige and not judge that person. The point is that the world has been and always will be a crazy place and you can never be too careful. So if you are planning an event of any kind of size please do yourself and your guests a favor by acquiring and using a handheld metal detector.

Thanks To Handheld Metal Detectors Nobody Has To Get Shot At Your Next Event

I love big events. I guess you could say that I am a real people person. Concerts, parties, company picnics, sporting events, the theatre, anywhere you find a large number of people gathered is where I want to be. Another somewhat related thing I truly enjoy is not being shot and fatally wounded while at these events. I’m going to go ahead and say it is probably my very most favorite part of any large event (unless they have rice krispy treats). I have never been shot but from what I hear and have seen in the movies it does not look at all enjoyable. There seems to be a lot of bleeding, screaming and general discomfort. These are all things that will really kill the mood of any otherwise enjoyable event.

Of course fatal shootings could be a thing of the past at any and all events if the event planners would just take the simple and affordable step of securing for themselves a handheld metal detector. Metal detectors are extremely effective and extremely easy to use. It shouldn’t take longer than a couple of seconds to scan each and every entrant to ensure that nobody has entered with a weapon and intentions on crashing the party.

I have several customers who own nightclubs and before they had a chance to speak with me they were for some reason under the impression that they needed one of those giant doorway frame metal detectors that cost thousands of dollars. This is not at all the case as a handheld security scanning device can work every bit as effectively and at relatively the same speed with which the larger doorway models work.

If you are having on holding a large event I would hope to the almighty that you would have some form of security personnel on hand. I’m not implying that one needs to have a swat team on hand for a kids birthday party but if you are having an event where a fair amount of people will be showing up and you do not know all of those people I think it would behoove everyone involved to have a couple of security personnel and have any entrance secured by that personnel and have them equipped with handheld metal detectors.

If you are concerned about people’s opinion of being scanned then I would politely tell those people to pick another party. If it takes a few extra minutes to ensure the event is safe and sound for all than that few minutes seems immeasurably worth it.
