The job of security guard is one that is often underappreciated and undervalued. These people, although often found sitting alone with not much to do, are often the first, last and only line of defense that a business has in protecting their personal property. If an intruder should illegally enter privately secured property it is up to the security guard to stop this intruder by any means necessary. Surely these men and women deserve to perform their job with some form of protection but what should that protection be? The vast majority of security guards cannot, and in most cases should not, be armed with firearms and I don’t think I need to get into explaining why that is a bad idea as it should be obvious. So the question is what is a self-defense device that can be carried by security guards that is effective yet relatively safe and of course legal? The answer is a stun gun flashlight. I think these are great devices for just about anyone but they really seem custom made for security guards.
First of all the stun gun flashlight is a solid, extremely well built and sturdy flashlight and I can’t think of too many security guards that couldn’t use a flashlight. It also has an extremely high decibel alarm, great for alerting other security personnel that they might need assistance or for scaring the bejeezus out of any intruders. Lastly, the device is what the name implies, a stun gun. Not just a stun gun but a stun baton which is ultimately more effective than a traditional stun device as it gives the user the advantage of having more reach. This way the security guard doesn’t have to be quite as close to an intruder in order to subdue him.
Stun devices are certainly much safer than many other options for self-defense, like a firearm for example. They are also a much more humane alternative as they do not leave the attacker with any lasting side effects. Stun devices can also be every bit as effective as any option one may have for defending themselves. Some police studies have shown stun batons to be as effective as a 9mm handgun without having to take the life or even seriously injure anyone.
So if you are a security guard, know one or possibly employ one please strongly consider arming them with an effective, humane and legal means of defensing themselves with a stun gun flashlight.

A Stun Baton Flashlight Is The Ultimate Non-Lethal Self Defense Tool

Having been in the non-lethal self-defense business for many years I have seen a great deal of self-defense weapons come and go. Some were great and others not so great but the one that has always stood out as the very best and most effective in my opinion is the stun gun flashlight.

First and foremost the stun gun flashlight is a flashlight, and who couldn’t use a flashlight from time to time? The fact that the stun gun flashlight is a device you can use on a daily basis is what really sets it apart from its peers and what makes the device so extraordinary. Stun devices, especially stun batons are wonderful non-lethal self-defense tools but how often will they really be used? Hopefully never.

Stun devices, in my opinion, have an advantage over other non-lethal self-defense weapons like mace and pepper spray in that they don’t allow your opponent to “fight through the pain”. Defensive sprays are extremely effective but there is the small chance, especially if an attacker is under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, that the spray will not immediately and effectively stop the attack from proceeding. A stun device on the other hand leaves this attacker with no choice but to stop attacking. That is because a stun device like the stun gun flashlight does not work on the premise of causing an attacker pain but by completely disrupting the attacker’s neurological pathways. In other words it takes away the attackers ability to control their own body so it doesn’t matter how tough the attacker is or how high their pain threshold.

Stun batons like this one have an advantage over other more traditional stun devices in that they give the user more reach. With traditional handheld stun devices one must actually be touching an attacker in order for the device to work and subsequently subdue the attacker whereas with a stun baton one does not need to be nearly as close to an attacker in order for the baton to do the same job. The best analogy for this is to think about a boxer. One trait they always list before a fight is a boxer’s reach and with good reason as reach is a major advantage in a fight. If you don’t have to be as close to your opponent as your opponent does to you in order to deliver an effective strike then you have a major advantage over that opponent now don’t you?

So if you feel the need to carry a non-lethal self-defense tool I would hope that a device like the stun gun flashlight would be strongly considered.

Handheld Metal Detectors And Stun Batons Are Security Guard Essentials

Security guards are often trusted with securing not only a person or business’s property but often they are in charge of securing people’s well-being and ultimately their lives. Security guard is a profession that is sometimes looked at as being “cushy” and I think it is a bit unfair when you consider exactly what is being asked of these security professionals and oftentimes the responsibility that is bestowed upon them, especially when you consider what many of them are earning. Stun batons are something I think a much larger group of security guards should possess. After all, security guards are often the first, last and only line of defense and this could potentially mean involving themselves in a physical altercation. For the salary most of these professionals are making the least their employers could do would be to arm these professionals with a means of defending themselves in an effective, non-lethal, humane and legal way. This can all be accomplished with a stun baton. Stun batons, like all stun devices work by incapacitating the attacker using a very powerful, yet non-lethal current of electricity that interrupts and disables the attacker’s neurological pathways. Stun batons are another device which take no special training to operate and are a much better alternative to firearms or fists in the event of an attack.

I Hope Santa Brings Every Security Guard A Stun Baton For Christmas

Security guards are, in my opinion, one of the most misunderstood, underappreciated, and misrepresented professions in the entire world. They are so often portrayed and thought of as being under qualified and lazy when quite often the exact opposite is closer to the truth. Security guards are very often the first, last and only line of defense that a person or business has against intruders and that fact alone necessitates the need for security guards to have some measure of protecting themselves against these intruders.

Firearms are certainly not an option for the vast majority of security guards and for obvious reasons. The qualifications to be a security personnel are often not as strict as those to become a law enforcement agent and we do not need untrained or under qualified personnel roaming about with deadly weapons. Any option for a security guard should certainly be effective, to help protect the security guard, but also non-lethal, to help protect the general public. So where does that leave us? Well, it leaves us with several options for weapons of non-lethal self-defense. Pepper spray and stun guns being the two most prominent and reasonable alternatives to firearms.

Pepper spray is very effective and has the advantage of giving a security guard a safe distance from which to use this weapon as most defensive sprays have an effective range of about 6 to 8 feet. One disadvantage to pepper spray are that an assailant, although somewhat unlikely, could potentially fight through the pain of the pepper spray and continue attacking. Another disadvantage would be that the pepper spray could potentially be wrestled from the guard by the assailant and used against the guard. Stun guns are great because an attacker loses the ability to ‘fight through the pain’ because stun guns do not work on the premise of causing an attacker pain but completely incapacitating them by disrupting their normal neurological processes through the use of a high voltage electrical current. The disadvantage with traditional stun guns is that they lack any range and must be physically touching an attacker in order to work and that means extremely close combat situations which could prove disadvantageous for the guard. It should be noted that stun guns remain non-lethal as the current of electricity that they emit is high voltage but low amperage and it is in fact amps that prove fatal, not volts. This is where the stun baton can prove to be so useful. It combines the advantages of completely incapacitating an assailant with the reach of a pepper spray. The retractable stun baton by Stun Master, for example, measures almost 2 feet when fully extended and that allows the security guard another 2 foot cushion from which to work if he or she should find themselves in a physical confrontation with an intruder.

This article is purely my opinion regarding what attributes the ‘perfect weapon’ for security guards should possess and you are more than welcome to agree or disagree. Let’s first determine what the role of security guard means. To me a security guard is not the stereotypical, bumbling, inept slacker that Hollywood always seems to depict. why this stigma has followed security professionals I do not exactly know. Perhaps because many security guards are not college educated or because people assume that they don’t see any “action” while on their post. In reality the role of security professional is, and always has been, an overworked, underpaid, and severely underappreciated one. They are the first, last and very often, only line of defense that a business has against unlawful entry and theft. It is true that the majority of security guards will spend the vast majority of their time, if not all their time, in a state of ‘sitting and waiting’ for something to happen and chances are good that that something will never happen but on the off chance it does these security professionals will be called upon to potentially risk their life to protect the companies physical assets. As such we should make sure that these security professionals are armed with the latest and greatest non-lethal self-defense weapons available.

So now that we have more or less defined what the role of security professional means we should look at what we need to arm these professionals with in order to ensure the safety of the security guard, the company they work for and even the potential assailant they may need to one day deal with. First and foremost any weapon of choice should be non-lethal as we don’t need the average security guard walking around with a loaded handgun. Secondly, the non-lethal security device in question should be effective to help protect the security guard and allow him to do his job to the best of his ability. I can’t think of a more effective non-lethal instrument than the stun baton. Numerous police studies have shown stun devices to be every bit as effective in neutralizing an attacker as a 9 mm handgun and without having to kill, or even injure an assailant, to do so. And stun batons have a massive advantage over traditional stun devices as they have much more reach and hence a security professional does not have to be as close to an attacker and risk having the device taken from him by the attacker. For all of these reasons and more I truly believe that every security guard should be equipped with a stun baton.

Stun Batons Share The Same Advantage Over Traditional Stun Devices As a Boxer Over His Opponent

I have always been a fan of boxing and if you are too you will notice there are always certain physical attributes that are compared for each fighter before the fight. First of all there are weight classes so weight is certainly one attribute that could be considered an advantage in a fight. Height is another and you will almost always see that comparison listed in a brief screenshot right before the fight. So height to a lesser degree than weight could certainly be an advantage for a boxer but it’s not height as much as it is another physical attribute that usually gives a taller boxer an advantage over a shorter boxer and that is reach. The reason is simple, if Boxer A doesn’t have to be standing as close to Boxer B as Boxer B does to Boxer A in order to land a punch than Boxer A is going to have a clear advantage.

This same principle applies to stun devices and stun batons share the exact same advantage over traditional stun guns. That advantage being that an individual does not need to be standing as close to an attacker as they would with a traditional stun device in order for a baton to be effective. With any stun device, including a stun baton, the contacts (the area of the device that actually emits the electrical charge) needs to be touching an attacker in order for the device to do it’s job, which is shock and subdue the attacker. This can be a stressful situation for even the strongest and fastest of civilians but even more so for someone that may not be as strong and fast as their attacker as there is a possibility that the device could be wrestled away and even used on the person carrying the stun gun in the first place. With a stun baton that stress can be relieved to some degree because you’ve now got not only arms reach on your attacker but two arms reach. The Stun Master telescopic baton, for example, is almost 2 feet long when fully extended and unless your attacker is the Jolly Green Giant he or she is going to have an immense amount of difficulty getting to you before the baton touches them and renders them completely incapacitated.

Reach is not the only advantage that a stun baton has over a traditional device either. Contact space (again the area of the device that does the actual shocking) is much greater on a baton than on a traditional stun device. Most stun guns have about 2.5 inches of contact and that 2.5 inches needs to be touching an attacker in order to work, whereas a stun baton gives its user an average of 18 inches to touch an attacker and be effective.

So if you are considering a stun device for your own protection I hope that you will consider these facts before making a purchase.

Stun Gun Flashlights Are Perfect For Security Guards

Security guards are often portrayed as lazy, overweight, bumbling, and altogether inept when it comes to actually securing the place they are being paid to do so. I have worked as a security guard and still have some friends that are security personnel and I can say that I find that stereotype to be quite misleading and not a very realistic description of myself or the guys I know that are security guards. I think that stereotype derives from the fact that many security guards will never see any real “action” and will never have to use force to secure and protect an area but any security guard could potentially be called to do so at any time and many other professions will never understand the stress that goes along with that knowledge. Not to mention that some security personnel, depending on where they work, may see “action” quite a bit and have had to , or will have to, use force on multiple occasions to secure and protect. In cases like this we should give them every advantage to do so in the safest, most effective and humane way possible. This is why I feel the stun gun flashlight might just be the perfect tool for any security guard and I believe that for multiple reasons.

First and foremost the device is exactly what it says it is and that is a flashlight. What security personnel working at night couldn’t use a flashlight? A flashlight might very well be the most oft used tool in security guard history. Why Stun Batons Are Better Than Regular Stun Guns

I have to apologize if the title of this blog is a bit misleading. I do adamantly believe that stun batons are a more effective means of non-lethal self-defense than a traditional stun device but there are pros and cons to just about every decision and there are certainly advantages that a traditional stun gun has over a stun baton, conceal-ability for example. However, before I stray from the point of this blog I am simply saying that if I were backed into a corner and had one or more assailants that were coming after me and needed to be subdued I would much rather have a stun baton than a much smaller stun gun.

The reason behind this thinking isn’t all that difficult to understand. Just by looking at a device like the Stun Master telescopic stun baton you can tell that it is a device that can get the job done, it’s very intimidating in appearance. The glaring difference between a device like this telescopic baton and a regular stun gun is the difference in size and when it comes to a stun device size matters. One must remember that in order for a stun gun to work the small space between the device’s electric contacts (usually less than 2 inches) must actually be touching the assailant. This means that the user will have to be in very close quarters with their assailant and this can lead to potential problems if the attacker is considerably stronger and, more importantly, faster than the user. What I mean to say is that being in those close quarters increases the chances of the stun device being taken away from the user and potentially even used against them. A stun baton however gives its user a tremendous advantage and that advantage is reach. There is a reason that ‘Reach’ is listed as a major advantage in combat sports and the reason is simple, because the person with the longer reach does not have to be standing as close to the other person to inflict damage. The premise is exactly the same with non-lethal self-defense weaponry, the further you can be from your attacker, and still inflict damage, the better. If I were to ask you if you would rather subdue an attacker from 3 feet away or 3 inches away I think the answer from the majority of sane people would be 3 feet, no?

Again, there are advantages to a stun gun and I think the most obvious would be the ease in which one can carry a stun gun. The vast majority of models will fit in a good sized pocket and that makes them much easier to carry with you at all times whereas a stun baton is much bigger and heavier and not going to fit in many pockets. Because of this reason I usually suggest traditional stun guns for most people that want to carry such a device at all times but when it comes right down to the actual physical act of stopping an attack I think a stun baton will have a slightly higher success rate than a traditional stun gun.

Stun Batons Might Be the Perfect Tool for Security Guards

Depending on local jurisdictions and the rules set forth by individual employers, I believe that just about every security guard should be equipped with Stun Master stun batons. Stun batons are extremely effective non-lethal self-defense weapons that might not be suitable for any and everyone but certainly seem to be ideal for security guards. Stun batons are noticeably larger than normal stun devices and even when closed are still a tad longer than a foot, 13 inches to be exact. So these devices aren’t going to be concealed in a very practical manner which means more often than not they will be carried in a holster and visible to anyone. Not so ideal for a pedestrian but certainly ideal for security guards. Security personnel should command peace and order and nothing says ‘play nice in here’ like a stun baton strapped to one’s side.

These devices work in the same way that other stun devices work, by emitting a high voltage, 800,000 volts in this case, low amperage current of electricity that causes an assailant’s neurological pathways to be disrupted. That’s fancy talk for ‘make’s the assailant lose control over their own body, muscles spasm, and stop doing whatever bad thing they were doing’. The fact that these devices are low amperage is what keeps them from taking a life and high voltage is what makes them so amazingly effective in stopping even the most aggressive of attackers.

When fully extended these batons reach 21.5 inches and will shock through clothing. The full retractable metal part of the baton becomes electrified giving its user much more surface area with which to work while subduing a bad guy. And should the bad guy try to grab the baton from a security guard he will feel the full force of what 800,000 volts of justice can do. And you needn’t worry about a bad guy that is being shocked touching the security guard because the current will not pass through. Truly an amazing piece of hardware, is it not?

What’s nice about these devices is that they are not just stun guns but also a completely multi-functioning piece of equipment that comes with a built in flashlight, perfect for security personnel working at night, and a 120 decibel alarm to help call others should a problem arise. 120 decibels is roughly as loud as a rock concert so unless the other security guards are deaf as a post they should come running.

Last but not least I will say this, a stun baton does not have to touch an attacker in order to be effective and let me explain what I mean with a hypothetical example. Let us say that a security guard in a warehouse sees a man entering the warehouse who he knows should not be there. “Stop” he can say and let us now say that the unauthorized intruder begins approaching the security guard with a menacing look on his face. Now the security guard can unsheathe the baton and give one more stern “Stop!” If this does not do the trick the security guard could extend the baton and fire off a warning shot. The bright blue arc and extremely loud crackle of 800,000 volts is sure to make any intruder think twice about proceeding and if it isn’t the security guard could further intimidate with a blast of the 120 decibel alarm. If the intruder still wants to play games he can get himself zapped and learn a valuable lesson.
