Many seniors living unassisted these days live in an apartment or condo for the simple fact that they may not need the same amount of space as a full family and also due to the fact that it is easier to maintain a smaller living space. Also it may be more cost effective for many seniors to live in an apartment or condominium. Apartment alarms are often devices like the simple yet effective door guard alarm that can be hung on any doors at night and should it sense the slightest vibration an alarm is activated doing two things, alerting the senior that someone is attempting to enter their residence and at the same time scaring the holy heck out of the intruder and probably sending him running away in fear of being caught. Apartment alarms take seconds to install and cost a fraction of what it would cost to install a similar alarm system in a single family home.

Personal alarms are small alarms usually in the form of keychains that can be carried in a purse or pocket and should be on your person at all times. After all what good is having an item of self-defense if you don’t have it on you if and when you really need it? Personal alarms work much like apartment alarms in that their main weapon is an extremely loud noise. Burglars and pickpockets alike do not want to get caught so when a 130 decibel alarm starts wailing, as is the case with many of these alarms, the criminal’s first reaction is usually to make a hasty retreat. The fact that these devices do not cause any actual physical harm is great for senior citizens especially because the device cannot be turned against them as could be the case with other self-defense options like mace, pepper spray or stun guns.

So please strongly consider the use of either, or preferably both, of these devices if you are a senior citizen living unassisted and alone.

If you are one of the millions of Americans who reside in an apartment or condominium and have not taken the time or effort required to install an apartment alarm I would like for you to do me a favor. Next time you leave the apartments just leave the door wide open. That’s right, just leave it wide open for any Tom, Dick or Harry to walk right in and make themselves at home in your apartment. Actually, when you get outside your building just shout out loud to no one in particular “Hey, I left my apartment door wide open and I’m not going to be home for quite some time!”. Things really get ludicrous when you consider that home alarm systems are installed in a much higher percentage of homes than are installed in apartments. Although perhaps that is one of the reasons burglars more often choose to rob an apartment than a single family home, they might feel they have a lesser chance of triggering a burglar alarm in an apartment. This is precisely why apartment dwellers need to install some kind of alarm system immediately.
Also, home alarms are way more costly than the typical apartment alarm and much more complex and harder to install, so much so that a professional installation service is almost always required (which costs even more money!). The average apartment alarm takes about 10 seconds to install and costs about as much as lunch for two at a fast food restaurant. So when you consider the fact that these alarms are extremely affordable, extremely simple to install and you’re three times as likely to need one as you would living in a single family home it just doesn’t make a shred of sense not to install one today in your apartment or condo.

Apartment Alarms Help Replace the One Thing That Renters Insurance Cannot, Your Peace of Mind

I am in the business of home security devices, specifically apartment security devices, and time after time I receive orders from customers that have already been the victim of a burglary to their apartment and hence I feel as though I’m assisting them just a bit too late. Don’t get me wrong, it is never too late to install an apartment alarm system it is just that one of the wonderful benefits of installing such a system is never having to feel that horrible feeling of insecurity after a break-in has already occurred, and unfortunately when most people decide to install a security system.

The reason so many people fail to install apartment alarms is because oftentimes people don’t even realize such devices exist. People are obviously aware, and understand the importance of alarm systems for single family homes but few, for whatever reason, are aware or understand the importance of apartment alarms. I have never had to experience that horrible feeling that one must surely feel the night after a break-in has occurred. Trying to go to sleep and not knowing who was in your residence last night and more importantly whether or not they intend on coming back. What really pains me though is that this feeling of insecurity could have been so easily avoided had the victim simply installed a 20 dollar door guard alarm.

Most apartment alarm systems cost about the same as a decent toaster and take less time to install than that toaster takes making toast. Often, especially if one is not in a garden apartment, a simple door guard alarm on one or more doors (depending on the layout of the apartment) will suffice.

So please, if you or someone you love is renting, don’t just stop at purchasing a renter’s insurance policy and take the time and small amount of effort to secure and install a simple apartment alarm system.

You May As Well Leave Your Door Wide Open If You’re Not Going To Install Apartment Alarms

If you are currently renting an apartment and that is your primary residence I hope that you have already had the presence of mind to install 1 or more, very inexpensive, very basic apartment alarms to secure this apartment. If you have not done so you should probably just leave your door wide open next time you head off to work in the morning. While you are at it why don’t you leave a helpful little note for any potential burglars informing them as to where they can find the most valuable items so that they don’t have to waste any time and can hopefully get away scott free. You could assist these home invaders even more by leaving a dolly for any heavy items that would otherwise take an extra burglar or two to carry. Plus you wouldn’t want any burglar to hurt themselves carrying all of your belongings down to the van so that they can go sell it on the black market, would you? Now before you go and read this and think I am just being a smart aleck, please understand that it is obvious I am joking but to do the things I just mentioned don’t seem too terribly insane compared to not installing something as simple and affordable as an apartment alarm to protect all of your worldly possessions and the peace of mind and feeling of security that doing so can instill.

The truth of the matter is that the vast majority of apartments have no security measures in place to help protect against break in. What makes this fact harder to stomach is that, contrary to belief, an apartment is more likely to be broken into than is a single family home, yet a higher percentage of single family homes have security devices installed and those are much more expensive and much more complicated to install than are your average apartment alarms.

One argument that I hear all too often is the “well I’m not concerned, I have renters insurance”. Really? You aren’t concerned with criminals breaking into the place you sleep (potentially while you are still there sleeping!) and rummaging through your stuff to decide which items to take for themselves? Is your renters insurance policy going to deflect bullets if one of those criminals should happen to have a gun and doesn’t feel like leaving any witnesses when you startle him by walking in on him robbing you? the answer is no it is most certainly not going to stop bullets and for that matter neither will an apartment alarm but what an apartment alarm will do, that a renters insurance policy cannot, is thwart this criminals entry before it even starts.

If a burglar has any brains whatsoever and hears an extremely loud wailing siren go off when he goes to open your door or break a window that burglar is most likely going to turn tail and run like the coward he really is. No burglar wants to be caught or they wouldn’t be very successful burglars now would they? So please do yourself an immense favor and secure an apartment alarm for yourself and install it before it is too late.

Keeping Your Apartment Safe Includes Installing Apartment Alarms

I have found an interesting phenomenon amongst apartment renters and that is that many apartment renters are under the impression that they do not need to install an alarm system to help protect their residence from a potential break in. This is an absolute and potentially dangerous misconception. Studies continue to show that apartments are more often broken into than are single family homes and as such any apartment renter needs to seriously consider installing some kind of apartment alarm system. Such alarm systems are extremely easy to install and cost much less than one would think, making installing an apartment alarm seem like a no-brainer to me.

One of the things that make apartment alarms so much easier to install than an alarm system for a single family home is that with an apartment you usually have much fewer points of entry to concern yourself with. So for example in a case where there are only two doors to worry about, one could simply hang a motion sensor alarm on each doorknob at night. If a burglar tries either door the ultra-sensitive motion alarm is sure to scare the holy heck out of him and certainly be loud enough to wake you and have you on the phone with the police in no time (hopefully in time to apprehend the low life). Compare the cost of two door guard alarms (which should run about 30 dollars combined) to installing an alarm system in a single family home (which could easily cost thousands of dollars) and the apartment costs literally a fraction of what the home security devices cost.

I was recently at a friend’s apartment and noticed that he had nothing installed in the way of an alarm system. He did not even have so much as a door stop to keep potential intruders from entering his residence and when I asked him about it his reply was “I have renters insurance” and I think this is another common misconception people have. They somehow believe that renters insurance is going to keep burglars out of their home. If you are living in an apartment I beg of you not to think along the same lines as these people. Renters insurance can replace items once they have already been taken but it can never replace the sense of security you felt before a stranger came into your home. The only way to mend that feeling of insecurity is to never feel it in the first place and the best way i know how to do that is by installing an apartment alarm.

Aside from how inexpensive these alarms are they are also extremely easy to install yourself and take almost no time to do so. This also is an advantage renters that wish to install a security system have over those that live in a single family home. Apartment Alarms Would Have Helped Antoine Dodson

If you live in a home with running water and electricity than chances are you’ve seen the now legendary Antoine Dodson YouTube video (and countless remixes and spin off videos) of a somewhat comically enraged Mr. Dodson threatening the unknown assailant that broke into Antoine’s apartment and tried to assault his sister. Fortunately this scumbag intruder was scared away and neither Mr. Dodson nor his sister was injured. Also, the Dodson’s received a fair amount of money and fame for their troubles and as nobody was much the worse for wear this break-in turned out to be a positive for Dodson. However, break-ins and burglaries are certainly no laughing matter and as such we apartment renters need to take special care to ensure that our apartment is safe.

In Antoine’s case the intruder climbed onto a garbage can, onto a ledge and in through a second floor bedroom window. I can only imagine how incredibly terrifying it would be to wake up to a strange man standing in your room and how that could very well permanently effect one’s psyche even if no physical harm was done. What always gets me in cases like this is just how easy it would have been to prevent. Let’s for example say that you live on the second floor and one of your windows looks relatively accessible with little effort. For about the cost of 2 people to eat at a fast food restaurant (we’re talking Burger King here, folks) you could secure any window with a simple glass vibration alarm that will awake you and scare the holy hell out of anyone that tries to go through that window and into your apartment. I think it’s safe to say that the vast majority of scumbag intruders will turn tail and run the second an alarm goes off in the middle of the night while they are trying to break into an apartment.

And lest you think that apartment alarms are just not all that necessary I assure you that an apartment renter is in more dire need of an alarm system than the average homeowner. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, apartments see a burglary rate 79% higher than single family homes. Rental properties saw 210 property crimes per 1,000 households nationwide, while owned properties experienced only 146 property crimes per 1,000 households in 2001, the bureau reported. Furthermore, installing a security system in an apartment is much less expensive and easy than is installing a security system in the average single family home. So keep all of this in mind and please do yourself and your loved ones a tremendous favor and secure your apartment from break-in.

Do People Really Need Apartment Alarms?

Do people really need apartment alarms? That is a great question and one that I will answer with a question, do you really need a seat belt? How many times has a seat belt saved your life? Most of you reading this will no doubt have to answer zero and those of you that could honestly answer ’1 or more’ no doubt understand the value of a seat belt and will no doubt ever forget to fasten one. My point is you could very well spend the rest of your life as an apartment enter and never truly need one but is it worth risking that when securing and installing an apartment alarm is so simple and costs about the same as a night at the movies.




I remember having this discussion with my brother when I was over at his apartment one day and his reason for not needing an apartment alarm system was that he had renters insurance and so anything that was taken could be replaced. I don’t know if he was completely serious or not but there are a couple of glaring holes with that logic. One, renters insurance will in fact replace most items that have been lost to a burglary but if you think the insurance company isn’t recouping those losses by raising your premiums than you are, for lack of a better word, a sucker. Two, renters insurance may replace those material items you have lost but one thing even the greatest of policies will not replace is that sense of insecurity you will feel once you’ve been the victim of a burglary. Do you honestly think you’ll lay down the night after you’ve had a break-in without a care in the world? I don’t think I would even sleep at all for a while and it wouldn’t be because I was worried about replacing that sweet new toaster. I’d be asking myself things like “who was it?”, “Do they know me?”, “Will they be back?”, “what was that noise?”. My point is that material things can be replaced but what cannot be replaced seems to me to be so much more important and that is your general sense of well-being in your own residence. And the best way to not lose this sense of security is to not have a burglar enter your apartment in the first place.



Securing an apartment is oftentimes far easier than a home because there just aren’t as many points of entry as with a single-family home. Oftentimes, especially if you are living on the 2nd floor or above, the only entrances one needs to secure are the front and back doors and that can be done with a couple of door alarms which are truly nothing more than alarms that are hung on the doors, that’s it. No time consuming, expensive installation needed, just hang a door alarm up and go. So please, with sugar on top, get yourself an apartment alarm if you are living in an apartment and enjoy keeping your sanity. You wear a seat belt don’t you?

With the Housing Market in Shambles Apartment Alarms May Be More Important Than Ever

In today’s economic climate we are finding more and more people renting and fewer and fewer people owning their residence. This is no doubt almost entirely due to the near collapse of the housing market. I hope that this recent slew of new apartment renters understands the importance of installing apartment alarms upon moving in to their new residence. Many will understand the value in securing a renters insurance policy to help insure their belongings but very few I’m afraid will realize the value in an extremely affordable, easily installed apartment alarm.

Renters insurance is great in that it can help replace items that have been stolen during a break in but all that renters insurance can replace is the actual material possessions that were taken from the apartment. One thing, and in my opinion a much more important thing, that these insurance policies cannot replace is one’s sense of security that will no doubt be shattered after an apartment has been burglarized. I have been fortunate enough to never have experienced having a home or apartment that was broken into but I can only imagine the overwhelming feeling of insecurity one must feel in the days immediately following such a burglary. So how does one avoid these feelings of insecurity after a burglary? How about making sure that a burglar cannot enter the apartment in the first place by installing 1 or more apartment alarms.

Apartment alarms are much less expensive than traditional home alarm systems as apartments often have less space to monitor and fewer spots where a potential intruder could possibly enter. Less space and fewer entry points also makes these apartment alarms that much easier to install. For example, if you live in an apartment on the third floor it is probably safe to assume that you don’t have to worry about an intruder entering through a window (unless spider-man has turned to a life of crime) and hence do not need to worry as much about securing those windows with an alarm. However, if you do live in a garden apartment it may behoove you to install a very affordable glass breakage alarm on one or more of your windows (depending on how many you have). In most cases, and certainly for those living on the 2nd floor and above, securing the doors to your apartment may be more than adequate. In some cases just installing something as simple as a door brace may be your ticket to peace of mind and a burglar-proof apartment.

I have been asked many times by my customers whether or not I think it is really necessary for them to install an apartment alarm in their apartment. My reply to this question is always very simple “Do you want to keep the stuff you have in your apartment?”. If the answer to this question is yes and you don’t wish someone would just come and relive you of every material possession within the apartment than installing an alarm systems is an absolute no-brainer. Renters very often assume that they are somehow in less danger of being burglarized then there home owning counterparts when the truth of the matter is the exact opposite. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, apartments see a burglary rate 79% higher than single family homes. And securing an apartment is oftentimes much simpler and cost effective than securing a home for multiple reasons. For one, if you live on a floor other than the first floor a door guard alarm is all that you may realistically need as someone is very unlikely to enter the residence through a window, unless of course spider man is robbing your place. Secondly, even if you are on the first floor or in a garden apartment there just aren’t as many windows and doors to secure as is the case with the average single family home.

Renters insurance is an exceptionally wise decision but it should by no means be the one and only source of insuring your property. First and foremost, insurance can replace an item but what if the original item held significant emotional attachment? The best renters insurance policy on the planet can’t replace that. Secondly, if you are robbed and have to use your renters insurance policy to replace stolen items than I absolutely assure you that you will see an increase in your premium regardless of what the insurance salesman tries to tell you or how the company tries to hide this increase. And thirdly, and most important, renters insurance cannot replace the sense of insecurity and violation one will naturally feel once they’ve been the victim of a break-in.

So for all of these reasons and for ones I haven’t even mentioned please strongly consider securing your apartment with some form of apartment alarm.

Apartment Alarms Are Great For People Who Don’t Enjoy Being Robbed

Let me explain to you what I had in my apartment when I was in my twenties and living alone in the city. Nothing. I mean I had objects that might be referred to as tables as you could technically set something on them but in all seriousness if someone robbed me and took every last thing in my apartment I would be out maybe 200 bucks. He might have taken the Nintendo 64 and although that would have hurt immeasurably it wouldn’t have been an earth shattering financial event. Regardless of there being little of value in my apartment at the time I did have renters insurance in place and had anything been taken it would have been replaced with me losing nothing more than my deductible.



Unfortunately many renters take care to make sure their material items are insured but not necessarily the most important item of all, their peace of mind. What I mean is that when someone is the victim of a robbery what often happens is that they feel a sense of violation and insecurity that renters insurance can not replace. Fortunately I have not had to deal with that feeling but many of my customers have and the things they have told me make me glad I have not had to experience the same hardship. There’s a real sense of fear that can set in the night after a break in. Who was in here? Do I know them? Are they coming back? What the heck is going on? What was that noise? Am I talking out loud or am I just thinking these things?



The point is that renters insurance can help protect you from a financial loss but will do nothing to protect you from the mental and emotional toll that a break in can have on your sense of safety and security. A very inexpensive apartment alarm can however. Most apartment alarms work by emitting an extremely high decibel sound when a window or door has been breached and that really loud noise is almost always enough to deter a potential criminal from further entering the residence and why wouldn’t it be (unless the burglar is literally deaf)? Criminals don’t like being caught and as soon as they pop the window and hear a 130 decibel alarm screeching at them they are going to turn tail and book but by that point everyone within ear shot is on the lookout and that criminal has just increased his or her chances of being caught.



So please do yourself and those that love you a favor and consider installing one of these extremely effective yet affordable alarms in your own apartment or dorm.

Apartment Alarms Were Custom Built For People Who Aren’t Walker Texas Ranger

Do me a favor and raise your hand if your name is Walker and you are a Texas Ranger. Thank you. For those of you with your hand raised please disregard the following message. It is intended for people whose facial hair can not stop bullets. You my friend don’t need an apartment alarm. In fact you kind of hope somebody does break in. The rest of us hear the sound of breaking glass in the middle of the night and our hearts race and the hair on our necks stand up. I don’t have actual facts to back this up but I would b willing to bet that most intruders upon trying to illegally enter a residence and hearing an alarm go off are most likely going to turn tail and run. Burglars don’t like being caught. That is pretty much the polar opposite of what they are trying to do.



If not a motion detector than how about something as simple as a door stop. Or a galss breakage alarm. These are items that are so easy to install and can do so much to literally save your life. And we’re talking about obtaining items like this and protecting yourself and anyone who lives with you for so very little. It just doesn’t make any sense not to do so.



So for those of us that are not the man they call Walker and can’t incapacitate an intruder by simply staring at them, please consider protecting yourself and any loved ones who live with you by installing some sort of alarm system in your apartment.
