Do Electronic Dog Repellers Really Work And If So How?

I have been asked many times by many customers whether or not a particular item really works and the one product that seems to illicit that question the most is the electronic dog repeller. For whatever reason people are leery of accepting the fact that a dog could be deterred with nothing more than noise and light, especially when that noise isn’t even audible to humans. So to answer this question and put to bed any doubts about electronic dog repellers the answer is indubitably yes, they do work. With that said these repellers have limitations and should by no means be the be all and end all in protecting yourself from a canine attack. Nor should one go looking to test these things in a real life situation as once again, they do have their limitations and are not guaranteed to save your hide should you find yourself being attacked by a rabid dog. My Favorite Thing About Jogging Is The ‘Not Getting Bit By A Dog’ Thing

I love jogging so much. I really enjoy getting up early before the sun is even up, stepping out into the cold air of an early autumn morning and just hitting the streets of my neighborhood for 20 minutes. I may not be as fleet of foot as I was in my twenties but I can still run a 5k in under 25 minutes. One thing that has really helped me stay in reasonably good shape all these years has to be the supplementation, good diet and most of all not having my throat lunged at by a ravenous pit-bull.

Supplementation and a proper diet have allowed me to receive all of the various nutrients a body needs to run at peak performance. Not being bitten in the head and/or neck region by a 95 pound Rottweiler has really helped me not bleed to death in agonizing pain and terror.

Stretching has also played a key role in helping me to stay young and not be chased down and tackled by a huge mastiff looking to bite himself a big old piece of jogger neck.

Proper equipment is also vital. I am pretty cheap most of the time and certainly one to buy generic if it makes fiscal sense o do so but one thing I will not skimp on is running shoes. First of all a decent pair of running shoes will last 3 times as long as a cheap pair and they will also help you run faster should a huge Cujo-looking beast chase you down to get some jogger giblets.

Hydration is also key when trying to maintain a high level of fitness, especially in the summer months when you are sweating more profusely and dehydration is a bigger threat. Proper hydration also prevents muscle cramps which can be a huge problem for runners of all ages. Water is great but I like to make sure I drink plenty of sports drinks that replace key nutrients and minerals that are lost when we sweat, like sodium for example. The summer months are also when you are more likely to be viciously attacked by a dog so please stay hydrated so that you don’t cramp up while fleeing for your life.

Last but not least I always make sure there is one item I bring along on all of my runs and that is an electronic dog repeller. Nothing is more effective at stopping the approach of any shady looking canines when out for your morning run. The electronic dog repeller works by emitting a super high frequency noise, audible only to dogs, that works to confuse and deter the dog. Animal Repellents Don't Get Much More Important Than the Electronic Dog Repeller

Animal repellents come in more flavors than ice cream. You have repellents for bear, raccoon, possum, rabbit, cat, squirrel, skunk, chipmunk, groundhog and deer. All of these animal repellents certainly serve a purpose but how important are they? Bear spray is without question as important an animal repellent as will ever exist but only practical if you are actually going to be in an area where there are bears. So unless you are an avid camper/hiker you may very well never need bear spray and hence its importance to you personally is non-existent. With that said, if you are an avid camper, please for the love of all that is holy pick yourself up some Guard Alaska bear spray before you head back out to the wilderness. The repellents for the other animals I listed are, once again, purposeful but by no means would I consider them incredibly ‘important’. Keeping your gardens looking nice and raccoons out of your garbage is all well and good but it’s not nearly as important as keeping your throat out of the jaws of a wild Pitbull. That is why, in my opinion, there aren’t many animal repellents that are more important than a good old fashioned electronic dog repeller. A device doesn’t get more important than one that keeps you from potentially dying in excruciating pain.

One thing I need to note about these electronic dog repellers is that they can be very effective but they are at the same time very humane for the animal. We don’t need to be out and about firing off the dog repeller at every dog we see in an attempt to be preemptively protecting ourselves. This device simply flashes a super bright strobe that confuses and deters the dog while at the same time emitting a super high decibel (high enough that it is inaudible to the human ear) alarm that is uncomfortable enough to the dog that it chooses to walk away before it can get close enough to even consider an attack, up to 40 feet.

Let me also note that although these electronic dog repellers are as effective as any non-lethal device from that range they are still not 100% and it would behoove you not to find yourself in a situation where you would need it in the first place. These repellers are to be carried and used just in case a situation arises. I am a fairly avid runner (although I use the word ‘run’ very loosely) and haven’t gone out running in my neighborhood without one of these repellers in months. I am not overly concerned that I will ever need it but there are a few canines in the area that have questionable intentions and so I feel much better having it on me. I strongly suggest that any other avid runners do the same if only for their own peace of mind.

An Electronic Dog Repeller Can Be A Man’s Best Friend

Dog attacks are a very real problem and certainly a problem that I think for the most part is vastly underestimated. In 2010 there were roughly 4,700,000 Americans that found themselves a victim of a dog bite. An average of 1,000 Americans per day were treated in emergency rooms for dog attacks. Fortunately only 34 of these proved to be fatal but that is still 34 people that are no longer with us as a result of a tragic situation that may have been avoided. With that said I have known a fair number of Rottweilers and Pit bulls that are absolute sweethearts that wouldn’t hurt a fly and that is because their owners were kind and loving in return. Unfortunately for every kind Pit bull owner there is an owner whose intent is to have their dog be a viscous, cold-blooded, killing machine and as a result people wind up being badly injured or even killed.

Electronic dog repeller, with you at my side,

I feel safe walking the streets or taking my bike for a ride.

I live in a neighborhood that is a little shady,

And I used to worry about this one pit-bull walked by a bug-eyed lady.

Well now I don’t have to worry because I have you,

You’ll keep these bad dogs at bay, this much I know is true.

I know I’m not alone in this fear of dogs attacking,

They hold dog fights in my hood, where common sense is lacking.

I feel for these poor dogs as it really isn’t their fault,

Its abusive owners that really need to halt.

I have a dog myself whom I love and respect,

But it is what it is and I don’t need one biting my neck.

And the reason I think it is such a hot seller,

Is it treats dogs with respect deservant of Old Yeller.

It does not shock, or hurt or maim,

That’s how these dogs got nasty in the first place and I won’t do the same.

The Movie Cujo Would Have Been 20 Minutes Long If Donna Would Have Had An Electronic Dog Repeller

Remember the movie Cujo? That big, adorable, 200 pound Saint Bernard gets bit by a bat and the poor thing gets rabies and starts foaming at the mouth, barking wildly and biting people in their throats. Then Donna, played by Dee Wallace and her son Tad drive that old beat up Ford Pinto to be repaired in some backwoods town and wouldn't you know it the car breaks down and Cujo shows up ready to bite himself some neck. Donna's only defense at the time was to roll the windows up and hope for the best. Eventually Donna gets out of the car to save her son who is having a rough go of things being trapped in the Pinto in the baking sun. Cujo comes at her in full attack mode but Donna manages to put him down with the old baseball bat to the skull trick. In true horror movie fashion the dog makes one last valiant attempt to get some throat biting in but is shot dead by Donna. The movie's running time is 91 minutes and much of that is the struggle between Donna, Tad and Cujo because Donna had nothing at her disposal to ward off Cujo at first. Had Donna had an electronic dog repeller the movie would have been about 20 minutes long.

Electronic Dog Repellers Are Good For People Who Aren’t Trying To Get Rabies

Contracting rabies does not sound fun. After being infected with rabies the victim will feel flu-like symptoms after about 2 to 12 weeks from being bitten. Soon after the flu-like symptoms begin the victim will begin showing signs of anxiety, confusion, agitation and all sorts of really uncool things. Much like the panic my brother Steve suffers when the bar he is at stops serving liquids. Almost no untreated rabies victim has ever lived. The very few who have survived have been left severely brain damaged. So to recap rabies makes you feel ill, then makes you completely lose your mind in sheer terror and then you die. Offhand I cannot think of too many things that would be worse than a rabies infestation. Let us thank our dear friend Mr. Louis Pasteur for coming up with the vaccine to this terrible disease many years before any of us were born. Could you imagine a time before the vaccine when people who suffered bites from a rabid dog were left to die a horribly excruciating death? Let us all take a moment to marvel at and thank Pasteur and modern medicine in general.

One of the ways to contract rabies is being bitten by a rabid dog. It is pretty rare to find a dog with rabies these days and I’m not sure why you would want to go looking for one but the best way to avoid being bit by a rabid dog is to keep your arms and legs out of it’s mouth. A good way to do that is to make sure no rabid dog gets close enough to do so. Let’s forget about rabid dogs for a moment and just try and not get bit by any dogs. There are plenty of canines out there capable of making us forget all about relatively ancient diseases and more about the gaping open wounds they have just left us with, if we are so obliged.

Electronic dog repellers are a great way to keep the distance between yourself and a dog you do not know and have no desire to get familiar with. There are two ways this beautiful little handheld device works. One is the discomforting but not harmful high frequency sound (20,000Hz-25,000Hz), audible to dogs but not to humans. And, the second is a super bright LED flashing strobe that temporarily blinds and confuses the dog. Both could come in very handy in some circumstances.

So if you live in an area where there are some questionable canines about you should seriously consider obtaining an electronic dog repeller.

Electronic Dog Repellers, For When Ubu Won’t Sit.

I am a dog lover. I have always had dogs and my current best friend, Kody is a 9 year old yellow labrador who I have had since he was a pup. My children ride this dog around the house like a carnival pony and my 2 year old son fails to understand that Kody is not indestructible. Like all good dogs Kody is extremely tolerant of all of this and it’s easy to tell he loves the kids every bit as much as we love him.




Unfortunately not all dogs are as loving, obedient and kind as Kody. Some dogs can be, for lack of better words, vicious killing machines. I truly believe that the vast majority of these vicious dogs are not born this way but made. Usually by low life scumbags who should never have the privilege of owning a dog in the first place. These types of dogs are awfully frightening because reason can not be talked into them. They have been programmed to attack and that is all that they know. Either that or long term abuse by irresponsible owners has made the dog afraid and untrusting of humans. One way or another these dogs are dangerous and if one gets close enough to attack you while you are out for a morning stroll you are in significant danger. Life threatening danger depending on the dog involved.



That is where something as inexpensive and easy to carry as an electronic dog repeller can be a real life saver (literally). These things work in two ways. At least once a week. Listen, I’m going to start running again soon and when I do I wont have to worry about any of the scary dogs in my neighborhood.
