I love my smartphone. It can tell me what time my beloved White Sox are playing, where they are in the standings and who is on the mound for tonight’s game. I can check my smartphone and know when my next train is leaving Union Station or see what the weather is going to be like this weekend (note: it’s going to be hot and humid). The Cell Phone Stun Gun is the Real Smartphone

I am an admitted tech geek. I love gadgets and gizmos of all kinds and am lucky enough to live in a time where a real technology explosion is taking place. If you think about where we are with technology and how far we’ve come in such a very short time you really get a sense of how exponential the timing of technology is. And it makes it hard to fathom where we will be in just a few short years. The smartphone in and of itself is an absolute marvel. If you could take a smartphone back just 20 years you would absolutely blow people’s minds. A smartphone can offer directions when you are lost, tell you what movie is playing at what time, where the cheapest gas is, the weather forecast and just about anything you could possibly want to know at the touch of a few buttons.

Even a smartphone has its limitations though and one area where it won’t be of assistance is in preventing a potentially life-threatening attack. As passionate as I am about technology, there is only one thing I am more passionate about and that is non-lethal self-defense. Knowing what time the next movie starts is great but I’d rather be alive to see it which brings me to one of my favorite self-defense gadgets of all time, the cell phone stun gun, the real smartphone in my opinion.

The Cell Phone Stun Gun: Self Defense in Disguise

I don’t like guns. I don’t like being around them and in my opinion the world would be a better place if every one of them magically disappeared right now. This is not to say that I am against self-defense. I whole heartedly believe that every law abiding citizen has the right, and in some cases the obligation, to carry an instrument of non-lethal self-defense with them at all times. Firearm advocates may ask me how I can be for one instrument of self-defense but not another. The answer to this is simple; I am for instruments of self-defense that are effective but at the same time non-lethal. Handguns are anything but non-lethal, on the contrary their intended purpose is to leave a hole in another being that requires a professional to close. Stun guns on the other hand can be every bit as effective as an actual handgun and much more often than not the person that is stunned walks away with zero lingering effects.

Stun devices work by interrupting an attacker’s normal neurological impulses by using a high voltage, low amperage current of electricity. Basically it leaves an attacker completely unable to control his or her own voluntary actions. It also makes the muscles of the attacker contract and relax so rapidly that the attacker is almost completely physically spent in just a matter of a couple of seconds. All this sounds rather harsh but let’s remember two things, first and foremost the person it is being used on is presumably an attacker trying to harm another and secondly a quick zap from a stun device is still much better for the attacker than a bullet from a gun.

So which stun gun is best for you? I would suggest one with enough voltage to truly be effective and that, in my opinion, is anything over 200,000 or so volts. I am also not a huge fan of walking around with a weapon exposed, whether it be non-lethal or not, concealabilty and discretion are key with any stun gun. It’s late at night and the streets are so quiet



I’m walking alone but I’ll fear no riot.



Because in my pocket I hold some protection



It’s a wonderful item, my favorite selection.



It looks like a cell phone to the naked eye



But a phone it is not, this thing is so sly.



It’s a non-lethal weapon of self-defense.



I will tell you what it is so you are not in suspense.



It’s a cell phone stun gun and I think they are keen



It helps protect the innocent from people that are mean.



If an attacker you fear, with this you should not



This thing will subdue him until in jail he can rot.



It’s as effective a weapon as can possibly be



And so much safer than a gun, I hope this you can see.



A stun device should leave no long lasting effect



Whereas a firearm can be quite a wreck.



In almost all cases the attacker is just fine



Though he may wake up in jail doing serious time.



A stun device, as everybody knows



Does not leave a hole that a doctor must close.



So let’s be humane and not take a life

They aren’t truly designed to cause an attacker pain.



By blocking neurological signals from the head



It keeps an attacker from trying to make you dead.



It basically gives you control of their actions



And they are much cheaper than a firearm (we’re talking a fraction).



And you don’t need to feel like a version of Rambo

Even right up close it just looks like a cell

Your Stun Gun Dealer May Be the Most Humane Person You Know

In my opinion, stun guns receive a bad rap. For some reason there is a negative connotation associated with the words stun gun and to be honest I don’t fully understand it. I think one of the main reasons that the stun gun gets viewed in a negative light has much to do with all of the stupid YouTube videos of morons having stun devices used on them. For example, the ‘don’t taze me, bro!’ video or the drunken buffoon on a tractor being tased while driving drunk on said tractor. Also there are probably times when an authority figure, such as a law enforcement officer, may have been to quick to resort to the use of a stun device when dealing with a potential threat. I wish this wasn’t the case but let’s be honest, I would much rather have a stun device used on me than a firearm, knife, bat, chair or even a fist. This is in no way condoning the use of excessive or unwarranted force by law enforcement officials or anyone else, I am simply saying that law enforcement needs to have a weapon of some kind and I’d rather they be prone to using a stun device than a firearm.

In other words it renders the attacker helpless by taking control of his or her own body away from them and giving it to the person doing the stunning. This may sound a bit harsh but one needs to look at the alternative to a stun device being used, that being a firearm. Stun guns are by no means a device to be taken lightly but in almost every case they prove to be non-lethal and leave the assailant with no permanent side effects. This is a far cry better than a firearm which can prove to be fatal in a great many cases. Stun devices rarely even require a trip to the hospital whereas a firearm is going to leave a hole in somebody that only a professional should be closing. According to Time magazine there were over 30,000 gun related deaths in the United States last year. I am having some trouble locating an accurate number of stun gun related deaths last year but the numbers I do see all range between numbers less than 50 or .001% of the fatalities that fire arms had caused.

The point I am trying to make here is that although I wished we all lived in a fairytale land where violent criminals did not exist and the need for protecting innocent people was not a concern, we do not live in such a world and we do need to protect ourselves. I would hope that if one does decide to protect themselves or others with a self-defense weapon, that weapon would be a non-lethal and humane alternative to a firearm. The stun gun fits that bill nicely.

Self Defense for Women and Seniors: The Cell Phone Stun Gun

I always feel like I am picking on women and senior citizens when I stress the importance of both groups needing to secure a means of self-defense for themselves. I often single out women and seniors when discussing self-defense products but it is merely because I find both groups, on average, could use a little extra help when it comes to self-defense. Stun devices can be almost as effective (if not every bit as effective) as a firearm in many cases, and unlike a firearm, a stun gun does not have to, nor will it hardly ever, take the life of another. Stun guns are effective because they administer a current of high voltage electricity; they are safe because this same current is low amperage. Many people incorrectly assume that it is volts which kill when it is really amps that do the killing. So a high voltage shock disrupts the normal neurological processes of the attacker’s brain and makes them stop attacking and play nice but the low amps makes sure that attacker lives to hopefully redeem themselves and think twice about attacking anyone else.

I like the cell phone stun gun because it offers its user conceal-ability and won’t stick out like a sore thumb. A woman carrying a cell phone is as normal as the sun rising every day.
