Any Runner Should Learn Where To Buy Stun Guns Or A Keychain Alarm For Protection

Running is great for the mind, body and spirit. Studies show that running can raise your levels of good cholesterol, increase lung capacity, lower your risk of blood clots and boost your immune system. Studies have also shown that running can lower the risk of many types of cancer and the risk of having a stroke. It can help burn fat and lose weight; in fact next to cross country skiing it is the most effective exercise in terms of calories burned per minute. Running can help boost your confidence by helping you attain your physical goals. Running can help regulate sleep patterns and we all know how important sleep can be for your mind, body and overall mood. Running naturally releases endorphins which can lift your mood and help fight stress and all of the nasty health problems often associated with that stress. Running secretes hormones that can help naturally treat depression. In fact it always troubles me to see anti-depression drugs so widely prescribed but rarely with a prescription to get out and try running. Sign up for a 5k sometime and look at the mood of the people milling about before and after the race. I think one thing you’ll find in common is that all of these people probably seem happy.

With all of the benefits of running in mind they mean nothing if you aren’t actually protected when you go out for a run. I myself often run by the lakeshore of Lake Michigan and it’s a beautiful scene with the sun setting over the lake on my one side and the city skyline on my other. I know though that beautiful surroundings do not prevent bad things from happening and certainly do not make me immune to crime. Especially running at night in the 3rd most populated city in America I need to be ever watchful and ready to defend myself at all times. For me this means always carrying on my person a keychain alarm. A keychain alarm is nothing more than a small, handheld alarm that I can activate if I ever get into trouble while running along the trail. It’s extremely loud and extremely effective in deterring an attack as well as drawing the attention of others.

I know a couple of female friends that run with small stun devices and the main difference between a stun device and a keychain alarm is that a stun device will actually physically impair an attacker and might be a good thing for women to carry in their purse or while they are out for a jog as oftentimes their attacker may be a male who is bigger and stronger than they are. Either way a runner, man or woman, should always be prepared to defend themselves in any situation and a keychain alarm or stun gun can certainly help there.

Apartment Alarms And Personal Alarms Are Absolute Musts For Seniors Living Alone

Senior Citizens that live alone and unassisted are one of the biggest, if not the biggest, target for criminals and home invaders. They should take simple and cost effective steps to ensure they are protected. In my opinion the simplest, safest and least expensive way for seniors to protect themselves is by installing an apartment alarm and carrying a personal alarm at all times.

Apartment alarms are extremely effective home security devices that I like to call apartment alarms because that is what they are most often used to protect, apartments (or condos). Many of these devices would work in a single family home as well but are really best equipped to monitor and protect a smaller living space with less points of entry than the traditional single family residence. Many seniors living unassisted these days live in an apartment or condo for the simple fact that they may not need the same amount of space as a full family and also due to the fact that it is easier to maintain a smaller living space. Also it may be more cost effective for many seniors to live in an apartment or condominium. Apartment alarms are often devices like the simple yet effective door guard alarm that can be hung on any doors at night and should it sense the slightest vibration an alarm is activated doing two things, alerting the senior that someone is attempting to enter their residence and at the same time scaring the holy heck out of the intruder and probably sending him running away in fear of being caught. Apartment alarms take seconds to install and cost a fraction of what it would cost to install a similar alarm system in a single family home.

Personal alarms are small alarms usually in the form of keychains that can be carried in a purse or pocket and should be on your person at all times. After all what good is having an item of self-defense if you don’t have it on you if and when you really need it? Personal alarms work much like apartment alarms in that their main weapon is an extremely loud noise. Burglars and pickpockets alike do not want to get caught so when a 130 decibel alarm starts wailing, as is the case with many of these alarms, the criminal’s first reaction is usually to make a hasty retreat. The fact that these devices do not cause any actual physical harm is great for senior citizens especially because the device cannot be turned against them as could be the case with other self-defense options like mace, pepper spray or stun guns.

So please strongly consider the use of either, or preferably both, of these devices if you are a senior citizen living unassisted and alone.

Some Things To Consider Before You Buy Stun Guns Online

A stun gun is a wonderfully effective piece of non-lethal self-defense hardware and I think a device that any law abiding citizen should have the right to carry. If you are a senior citizen or female living alone and want to feel an extra sense of security without having to carry a firearm then a stun gun could certainly be exactly what you are looking for. However, before you decide to jump online and buy a stun gun there are some things to consider first.

First and foremost you have to make sure that owning and carrying a stun device is in fact legal in your area. Most states have no restrictions whatsoever on stun devices but 11 states do have some restrictions. Stun guns are completely illegal to buy, sell or own in the District of Columbia, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island. In Wisconsin and Illinois stun guns are legal but with certain restrictions. In those two states one needs to basically have a legal firearms license in order to purchase and carry a stun device. I don’t want to get away from the point of this article but it always fascinates me when I see a state that makes a non-lethal self-defense device, like a stun gun, illegal but owning a firearm that kills thousands of people a year completely legal with the proper identification and licensure.

Secondly, it is extremely important to remember that although stun devices were designed as a non-lethal and more humane alternative to firearms they still possess the ability to injure or even kill (although fatalities due to stun devices is extremely rare). Any self-defense device that is going to be effective is certainly going to come with an inherent safety risk or it wouldn’t be effective now would it? With that in mind you need to treat a stun gun with the utmost care. Certainly never let anyone else handle it and if I need to tell you to keep a stun device away from children than I pray that you will never own one in the first place. These devices are not nearly as dangerous as a firearm but they are certainly still dangerous and should be treated as such. At home, especially if there are others living with you, you should keep your stun device in a lock box but close enough to retrieve the device should an intruder enter your residence.

So please consider buying a stun gun online if you are looking for a humane yet effective non-lethal self-defense weapon but as with any weapon use caution and careful consideration before doing so.

A Senior Citizen Self Defense Course Should Include The Proper Use Of Pepper Spray

I think self defense classes are great for just about anybody. Not only can they help teach you how to protect yourself in the event of an attack but they can also help build confidence, lose weight, and increase your overall mental and physical well-being. Seniors can absolutely benefit from self defense classes in the same way that people of any age can but I think it best that any course on self defense for seniors also include training seniors on the proper use of pepper spray. I don’t think pepper spray training is unique to senior citizens either and any law abiding citizen of any age could benefit from carrying and knowing how to use pepper spray. I just believe that seniors, more than any age group, could perhaps benefit the most from this training.

Seniors can certainly learn to defend themselves using only what they were born with, meaning their hands and feet, but a defensive spray like pepper spray can really be of great help especially if they are attacked by someone much bigger, stronger and faster than they are. Also, pepper spray training is something that can be taught in one class, as opposed to the weeks, months and years it can take to become proficient in any martial arts discipline. Some seniors may also be lacking the strength, speed and agility it takes to effectively execute many of the moves involved in martial arts. A 95 pound, 80-year old female is going to have problems fighting off a 200 pound, 25 year old attacker no matter how long she has been studying martial arts but the size and age difference can be immediately made up for if that 80-year old lady sprays her attacker in the face with pepper spray.

Like I stated earlier, the proper use of pepper spray is something that can be taught in just one class but I think the actual motion of drawing the pepper spray from a pocket or purse, aiming and spraying is something that can be (and should be) practiced in much the same way that one constantly practices a punch, kick or choke hold. When someone actually finds themself in a physical altercation with an attacker the person’s nerves can be rattled greatly and with the adrenaline flowing it is always best if the motions have been practiced to the point where it is second nature even under the most stressful moments.

So if you are a senior citizen, especially one living alone and unassisted, please consider a self defense course but also remember that training with a defensive spray should be part of the curriculum of that course.

Those In Charge Of Neighborhood Watch Might Want To Consider The Stun Gun Flashlight

There has been a lot of attention given to the position of neighborhood watchman due to recent events in Florida and this attention has been brought because a young man unfortunately lost his life. I won’t bother rehashing the whole story except to say that there was a man involved who claims to have been doing his duty as neighborhood watch and apparently shot and killed another young man in what he claims to have been self-defense. Whether or not it was truly self-defense really has no bearing on the point of this blog as the point of this blog is to make people aware of the fact that there is a much better choice than a firearm for anyone working neighborhood watch. A whistle or personal alarm would be a much safer and humane alternative for someone patrolling their neighborhood than would a firearm. However if someone truly feels the need ,and perhaps this need is justified depending on which neighborhood we are talking about to carry a device that can effectively stop an attacker than how about a stun gun flashlight?

I don’t have enough time to write all of the many reasons why some neighborhood watchman should not be running around his or her neighborhood with a loaded gun, suffice to say it just isn’t a good idea and scares the heck out of me just thinking about it. Guns are designed to take lives and I don’t feel there is anyone, certainly not a neighborhood watchman, which is in a position to make a decision as to whether or not another human being should live or die. I think anyone that volunteers their time to patrol their neighborhood and make it a safer place to live is extremely noble and I commend those people and I certainly understand that those people should be protected themselves and have a means of effectively defending themselves against an attacker. The point is that there is a way for people to protect themselves without having to kill another person or even seriously injure themselves and that is with the stun gun flashlight.

It’s perfect for neighborhood watch programs because first and foremost it has a flashlight which is great for patrolling at night. Secondly, it has an alarm so if someone patrolling the neighborhood feels they are in danger they can always sound the alarm and have the attention of others drawn to their location. Lastly, if a neighborhood watchman is in serious trouble an attacker must be subdued the stun gun flashlight is also a 200,000 volt stun gun that will stop an attacker of any size. Unlike a handgun it will simply subdue the attacker and not kill them or even leave that attacker with any long lasting injuries.

Earth Day Is A Wonderful Day To Enjoy Camping With Ozone Safe Guard Alaska Bear Spray

Earth Day is April 22nd and I for one cannot think of a better way to celebrate the beautiful planet we live upon that to get out and enjoy nature through the timeless tradition of camping. Camping is a great way for family and friends to enjoy the great outdoors, get exercise and breathe in the cool spring air that nature provides us with. Depending on where you go camping you must never forget to bring one particular item and that is Guard Alaska Bear Spray. If you do not have bear spray and ever find yourself in the unfortunate situation of coming face to face with a frightened bear, well it might just be the last camping trip you ever take. Without Guard Alaska bear spray it might just be the last trip you take anywhere.

Earth Day is also a day to celebrate not just and preserve flora but fauna as well. We humans have done much to drastically reduce the amount of land that many animals called home. Bears in particular used to roam freely over a vast portion of North America until we humans wiped out a fair percentage of them and forced them into smaller and smaller areas to live. Fortunately there are still areas in North America where bears roam freely and many of those areas are beautiful places to go camping, like Yosemite National Park for one. When we go camping in places like Yosemite, or anywhere there is even the slightest possibility of seeing a bear we have to remember to bring along bear spray to protect ourselves but we must also think about these poor bears. You see bear attacks don’t occur because the bears involved are blood-thirsty beats just waiting to prey upon unsuspecting humans, they happen because the bear is concerned for its own safety and does not understand the human’s intentions. Bear spray, like pepper spray, although immensely effective causes no permanent damage to the man or creature being sprayed. The immensely painful burning sensation and swelling of the eyes is enough to stop any attacker, man or beast, but the effects wear off in a relatively short amount of time.

What is so wonderful about Guard Alaska bear spray is that its ingredients are 100% natural, as is almost any brand of pepper spray, and contains absolutely no harmful, ozone-depleting chemicals. So not only does this bear spray keep you and your loved ones safe but it keeps the bear safe and perhaps most importantly on Earth Day is the fact that it keeps Mother Nature safe.

Why Colleges Should Hand Out Keychain Alarms To All Students

A college campus should be a lively environment where young students, eager to learn, are prepared for life after college and for their role in plying their trade to make the world a better place to live and more often than not college campuses are just that. However, the reality is that there is no place on Earth that is completely immune to criminal activity and a college campus is certainly no exception. There is certainly no shortage of stories about students being accosted while walking back to their dorms at night. Almost every university I can think of has at least taken the precautionary measure of installing emergency phones about their campus and kudos to them for that. Those emergency phones do have their limitations though and are not always practical. For one, those phones are staggered many yards apart and a helpless female student walking home at night might not be able to reach the closest phone if she is suddenly attacked. There is a very easy solution to this problem however and one that can be easily and affordably remedied by simply distributing keychain alarms to each and every student (female or male). My oldest child just turned 7 and so I don’t yet have to worry about her going off to college and being away from the family but when she does I can assure you she will at the very least have in her possession one of these personal alarms.
Personal alarms like the keychain alarm are great because they are completely safe and can cause absolutely no physical harm whatsoever. That is not to say, however, that they are not effective. On the contrary, keychain alarms can prove to be wildly effective and that is because they are extremely loud, which will draw the attention of anybody up to a quarter mile away, and extremely accessible as they are right in your purse or pocket.
They are the least cost prohibitive of any form of non-lethal self-defense and a simple keychain alarm can be purchased for about the same cost as eating at a fast food restaurant. So there can be no viable argument as to why any college or university would not be able to provide their students with such an alarm due to financial limitations.
I do not know if some colleges have already implemented a similar protocol to the one I am suggesting here but hopefully all of them will in the very near future. Student safety should be the highest priority at any institution of higher learning.

How To Train Your Dog Using The Electronic Dog Repeller

The electronic dog repeller is a wonderfully effective tool for deterring a dog with questionable intentions. Few people, however, understand that it can be a wonderfully effective training tool as well. Most people hear the name “repeller” and assume that the device’s sole purpose is to repel a dog that may intend on doing you harm. While the electronic dog repeller is great at doing that it is also a very humane instrument and causes the dog absolutely no harm and even comes equipped with a training setting that can be used to train your dog.
Having a dog myself, Kody our yellow lab, I understand the importance of properly training a dog. Kody is almost like one of my own children though and as such any training we did with him and any training I recommend anyone else do with their dog is going to be, above all else, humane. Although effective in deterring dogs the electronic dog repeller is still very humane and to such a degree that I would recommend it to anyone looking for a dog training device.
Here are some tips on training your dog with the electronic dog repeller…

1. Make sure the device is working properly by seeing how your dog initially reacts to the dog repeller. Remember that the device uses such a high frequency that it is not even detectable by the human ear, only the dogs. Most dogs will just try to leave the room immediately to get away from the noise; this will tell you that the device is in fact working.

2. Let me tell you right here and now that no command is more important for a puppy to master as soon as possible than the ‘sit’ command. Try and reinforce that one early and often in the training. If the dog does not sit when given the ‘sit’ command then press the button on the repeller and a very loud, high frequency sound will emit from the device and reinforce your command by letting the dog know it needs to listen next time or receive the uncomfortable noise.

3. The next most important command is coming when called. Follow the same rules as outlined in step 2 if the dog does not come when called. Again, this is a command to practice early and often.

4. Offer your dog a small reward (i.e. a piece of milk bone) when it does follow your command. Positive reinforcement is as important as negative reinforcement in the early stages of training.

5. Have patience. I don’t think I need to further explain the importance of having patience when training your dog.

With a little patience, love and reinforcement you will have yourself a best friend that is outgoing, friendly and obedient.

Why Personal Alarms Are Custom Made For Senior Citizen Self-Defense

Seniors have a multitude of choices when it comes to self-defense tools. However, all of these choices come with varying degrees of effectiveness and safety and so careful consideration and diligent research are always very important before making a decision as to which self-defense tool to carry.  In my opinion there is no tool of self-defense more custom made and perfectly suitable for seniors than a simple (yet extremely effective) personal alarm.

Personal alarms are simply a small handheld device, often in the form of a keychain that emits an extremely loud distress signal when a button on the alarm is pressed and when I say loud I mean 130 decibels of ear-splitting, attention directing loud too. That’s certainly loud enough to scare the heck out of some foolish purse snatcher who isn’t expecting much retaliation from a 75 year old lady. Aside from the scare it will put into any attacker, and perhaps more importantly, the alarm will draw the attention of anyone in the area. Attention is exactly the last thing that attacker wants when he or she is attempting to relieve a senior citizen of their wallet, purse, jewelry and potentially their life. Attention gets the cops called and bystanders involved and this will more times than not get the attacker running for the hills as soon as that alarm is pressed.

Personal alarms are also great because they make a wonderful alternative to much more dangerous forms of self-defense for seniors like stun guns, tasers, pepper spray, mace and firearms. All of those weapons I just mentioned are immensely effective in deterring an assault but they are also extremely dangerous and potentially fatal if used improperly. Also, most of those items are illegal in some areas without the proper licensure whereas personal alarms are 100% legal anywhere in the world.

Lastly, personal alarms cost a fraction of most other self-defense items and can be purchased for about the same amount as it costs to eat at a fast food restaurant. In my opinion it makes personal alarms for seniors a great investment and wonderful piece of insurance and peace of mind. So if you are a senior citizen looking for a little added insurance against the bad guys of the world or know a senior citizen that you’d like to help protect against these bad guys please seriously consider arming them with a personal alarm immediately.

If You Are Not Going To Install Apartment Alarms You May As Well Just Leave Your Door Wide Open

If you are one of the millions of Americans who reside in an apartment or condominium and have not taken the time or effort required to install an apartment alarm I would like for you to do me a favor. Next time you leave the apartments just leave the door wide open. That’s right, just leave it wide open for any Tom, Dick or Harry to walk right in and make themselves at home in your apartment. Actually, when you get outside your building just shout out loud to no one in particular “Hey, I left my apartment door wide open and I’m not going to be home for quite some time!”. Of course you will want to leave your apartment number so that any strange drifters you’ve just notified of your absence will know where to look and won’t waste time trying to break into your neighbor’s apartment.
I understand that this is an absolutely ludicrous request and one that makes absolutely no sense but in my opinion it is ludicrous that so many people are still leaving their apartment every morning to go to work, or at night to go out on the town, and leaving their residence completely unsecured other than the lock on the door. The fact of the matter is that apartment dwellers are almost 3 times as likely to experience a break in as is someone living in a single family home. Things really get ludicrous when you consider that home alarm systems are installed in a much higher percentage of homes than are installed in apartments. Although perhaps that is one of the reasons burglars more often choose to rob an apartment than a single family home, they might feel they have a lesser chance of triggering a burglar alarm in an apartment. This is precisely why apartment dwellers need to install some kind of alarm system immediately.
Also, home alarms are way more costly than the typical apartment alarm and much more complex and harder to install, so much so that a professional installation service is almost always required (which costs even more money!). The average apartment alarm takes about 10 seconds to install and costs about as much as lunch for two at a fast food restaurant. So when you consider the fact that these alarms are extremely affordable, extremely simple to install and you’re three times as likely to need one as you would living in a single family home it just doesn’t make a shred of sense not to install one today in your apartment or condo.

If You Are Serious About Self Defense You May Want To Find Out Where To Buy Stun Guns

I am of the opinion that every law-abiding citizen should have the right to defend themselves using something other than their own body. This is especially true for people who may not be as adept at handling themselves in a physical altercation with an attacker, like senior citizens and females. I am not implying that senior citizens and women cannot handle themselves in a physical altercation but that I think most of us would like to know that are grandparents, mothers, sisters and daughters would have some extra help and insurance should the unfortunate event arise where they find themselves potentially fighting for their lives. The help I am talking about is a non-lethal self-defense weapon; more specifically I am referring to stun guns.
Stun devices are extremely effective self-defense weapon that can be every bit as effective, if not more effective in some cases, than a firearm. The difference is that the person upon whom the stun device was used gets to live to see the next day and in almost all cases gets to do so without any negative, long lasting side effects. The same can certainly not be said for an individual who has been shot with a firearm. If a person who has been shot with a firearm is lucky he or she will have merely a trip to the emergency room to deal with. If they are less lucky they will suffer the same fate that thousands of others suffer every year from gunshots, death. I believe that even scumbag criminal purse snatchers should have, at the very least, a chance to redeem themselves and they can’t very well do that if they are dead, can they?
Stun guns do not work by injuring an attacker, nor do they work on the principle of causing an attacker great pain, as is the case with defensive sprays like mace and pepper spray. Stun guns work by incapacitating an attacker by disrupting his or her neurological pathways via an electrical current. Because the electric shock given off by the device actually disrupts their neurological pathways it makes it impossible for the attacker to “fight through the pain” as could be the case with something like pepper spray or even a firearm and is exactly what makes a stun device so effective. The electrical current is high voltage but low amperage and that is what makes the device such a humane alternative to other weapons as amps is actually what kills and not voltage as many wrongfully assumed.
There are literally hundreds of online stores that sell stun devices but it is important to check with your state and local laws to ensure that carrying such a device is in fact legal in your state. So please consider a stun device if you are interested in ensuring your own safety via a non-lethal self-defense tool.

The Cell Phone Stun Gun Is a Wonderful Alternative to Lethal Weaponry

There is not a day that goes by where multiple people in the United States are not killed by guns. Gun violence has become so commonplace that what I just said probably does not surprise or shock you in the very least and that in and of itself is truly a tragedy.  I live in the third most populated city in the United States and one that is well known for its crime rate and I will admit that the few times I watch the evening news (I prefer getting my news from a paper and I can pick and choose what sections of the paper to read) I view the gun violence stories and they are instantly forgettable to me. Forgettable because the next day there will be more new stories of people killed by guns that I can forget about until the next day after that when a new wave of fatalities hits the evening news. So every day that we wake up in the morning another parent will lose their child, child will lose their parent, friends will lose friends and hundreds of lives will forever be devastatingly altered because of firearms. Even if a firearm fatality occurs as an act of self-defense rarely does it not cause a great deal of grief for multiple people associated with either the shooter or the deceased. What makes this even more unfortunate is that it doesn’t have to be this way. It is possible to effectively defend yourself without having to resort to the use of a firearm and that is with something as simple as a cell phone stun gun.

The cell phone stun gun, like all stun guns, is an extremely effective non-lethal self-defense weapon designed to incapacitate an attacker using a jolt of high voltage electricity. The high voltage is what completely disrupts the attacker’s neurological pathways and essentially takes away the control they have over their own bodies. However, this disruption is temporary and because the jolt of electricity is also low amperage it does not kill the attacker nor does it leave them with any lasting negative side effects. Contrary to what some people may believe it is not volts that kill a person when they are electrocuted but amps.

Lastly, the cell phone stun gun is something many people can feel comfortable carrying because it is not so obvious that you are carrying a weapon of self-defense. This device looks exactly like a real cell phone upon even the closest of inspection. So please consider this alternative self-defense item if you really must carry something.

If Zimmerman Would Have Known Where To Buy Pepper Spray This Whole Ordeal Wouldn’t Exist

The whole situation surrounding George Zimmerman, the late Trayvon Martin, their families and the media in general is truly a sad an unfortunate one, as is any situation where a human being has lost their life. Whether you believe racism played a major role and that Trayvon was more or less murdered in cold blood or that Zimmerman was truly acting in self-defense the fact of the matter is that a young man has lost his life and parents have lost their child. Not to mention the fact that Zimmerman and his family, whether Zimmerman acted unjustly or not, has lost any semblance of a normal life that they could ever hope to experience after this tragedy.

I do not yet have an opinion regarding Zimmerman’s innocence until all the facts of the case are presented (as best they can be presented as half of the people involved in the incident can no longer speak for themselves). I will say however that I don’t agree with civilians walking around with concealed firearms as was the case with George Zimmerman. Zimmerman was licensed to carry the weapon he used to kill Trayvon Martin and so from a legal perspective he was not in violation of any law for simply carrying the weapon on his person but I just think it’s a recipe for disaster to have people walking around with loaded weapons and this latest incident should prove that.

Let us say though that Zimmerman’s account of the situation happened as he explained it to police and that Martin had attacked him and that Zimmerman was merely defending himself against this attack. That means that the crime of punching someone is now punishable by death in this case and that is grossly outrageous to me. Zimmerman, and any other civilian wishing to defend themselves, can do so without having to end another’s life and that is with pepper spray.

Pepper spray is an extremely effective alternative to firearms and can stop an attacker dead in his or her tracks without having to take that attacker’s life. Had Mr. Zimmerman chosen to carry pepper spray and not a firearm we would never have heard of either one of these guys. Trayvon would be around to tell his side of the story and both of their lives and the lives of both of their families would not be so dramatically, negatively and forever changed. Instead of a national news story that is once again dividing us all we’d have a little news snippet on page 2 of the local paper there in Florida.

So please, if you are one of the many Americans walking the streets with a concealed firearm, legally or otherwise, please consider a humane alternative to ending the life of another human and carry pepper spray instead.

Guard Alaska Bear Spray Is An Animal Repellent You Might Not Be Able To Live Without

Enjoying the great outdoors is something everyone should experience. Camping is a great way to get exercise, fresh air and can be a wonderful bonding experience between friends and family alike. Many of the camping destinations in the United States can be visited without necessitating animal repellents of any kind (unless you consider bug repellent). But anyone venturing off into wilderness inhabited by bears of any kind should absolutely, without exception, carry with them at all times some form of bear spray. There are a few brands of bear repellent spray available but the only one whose effectiveness I can personally testify to is a bear spray by Guard Alaska. Mace brand makes a bear spray as well and I would trust a leader in the self-defense industry like Mace but again I haven’t actually witnessed Mace bear spray repelling a bear. I have however witnessed multiple videos of Guard Alaska repelling a bear and it certainly seems to be the most popular bear spray out there today.
Bear repellent spray works on bears in exactly the same way that pepper spray works on humans. The main ingredients in both products are capsicum. Capsicum is what makes a hot pepper ‘hot’. It is also what stops an attacker, be it a bear or a human, as soon as it is sprayed into the face of either. It causes a severe burning sensation and causes swelling in the eyes that can lead to temporary blindness. All of that may sound very inhumane but when you consider the fact that defensive sprays leave no permanent adverse effects and that the bear is back to its old self later that same day it may not seem so inhumane after all. Plus it is certainly much more humane than ending the bear’s life by defending yourself with a firearm. Some studies have shown bear spray to be even more effective than firearms in some cases. If that isn’t enough of a reason to convince you to carry bear spray on your next camping trip I don’t know what is.
Lastly, Guard Alaska bear spray is completely safe for the environment as it contains no ozone depleting chemicals. That should be great news for any outdoor enthusiasts as the great outdoors can’t be enjoyed if we destroy it by way of harmful chemicals now can it?
So please, as a favor to your loved ones and as a favor to yourself please be sure to carry a bear repellent like Guard Alaska anytime you will be venturing into bear populated areas for any amount of time.

Michigan Lawmakers Are Finally Making Some Sense And Letting Their Citizens Buy A Taser

As of right now it is still illegal to buy, sell, own or carry a Taser in the state of Michigan but that looks to be changing if a new bill is passed. This new bill would allow citizens of Michigan to legally purchase and carry a Taser, provided they have a Concealed Pistol License (CPL). This would be a wonderful adjustment to the state’s laws and one that would allow citizens to defend themselves in a humane, non-lethal way not afforded them by handguns.
What I find so crazy is that it took until the year 2012 to get around to introducing this bill. When you consider the fact that it is legal in Michigan (with the proper license) to carry a concealed firearm, that works by blasting a hole in an attacker, yet it is still illegal in this same state to stop that same attacker in a much more humane fashion that won’t kill or even seriously injure the attacker. If you could explain to me how that makes any sense please leave a comment in the comments section below because to me this seems utterly ludicrous.
Most states have no such laws banning the use of Tasers and others have restrictions such as the need to have a firearms license in order to carry a Taser. Yet there are still a few states that prohibit the use of any stun device, like New York, New Jersey, Hawaii, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Again, in these it is possible to relatively easily secure a license to carry a firearm but not a stun device. Just to clarify a firearm discharges a bullet that is intended to leave a gaping hole in someone that could very easily kill or at the very least injure the person whereas a stun device subdues the same person without leaving the person dead or so much as injured in almost all cases.
Tasers, like any stun device, does not work on the principle of pain but by disrupting an attacker’s normal neurological pathways by delivering a high voltage, low amperage shock. They are so effective because an attacker cannot ‘attack through the pain’ as may be the case with a defensive spray like mace. Yet as effective as these Taser devices are they do not leave any lasting effects after the first few minutes. They simply allow the user a way to effectively defend themselves without having to kill another human being.
So kudos to the state legislators in Michigan and here is to hoping that they realize how absurd the current laws are regarding Tasers and that this bill allowing its citizens to defend themselves with a Taser becomes law.

Which Is Better, Dog Repellent Spray Or An Electronic Dog Repeller?

Dog attacks are much more common than people may realize and as such people (especially deliverymen, mailmen, runners, etc…) need to be prepared to thwart an attack by a potentially dangerous canine. Two of the more popular products for repelling a dog are dog repellent spray and the electronic dog repeller. But which of these is better? That is a question that might not be so easily answered until we evaluate exactly what each of these self-defense items really are and what each of these devices actually do.
First let’s start with dog spray and explaining exactly what that is. Dog repellent spray is just that, a spray that repels dogs. The truth of the matter is that this spray is nothing more than pepper spray, the same exact ingredients found in pepper spray for humans. It’s extremely effective against both humans and dogs because the spray works as an extreme inflammatory that causes severe burning and swelling in the mucus membranes of the dog that is sprayed and that can not only cause extreme discomfort but actually temporarily blind an attacking dog (due to the swelling of the eyes). The only drawback with dog repellent spray is that it has a limited range of about 6-8 feet and that is pretty close quarters for a dog that is in the midst of trying to attack you. Plus it does cause immense pain, albeit temporary, to the dog and so one should be confident that the dog that you are spraying was indeed a threat to your personal safety and that the spraying was justified in that sense.
The electronic dog repeller is an entirely different self-defense tool and works not by emitting an inflammatory spray but by emitting an extremely high decibel sound that is also very high frequency and hence can only be heard by canines. This device causes enough discomfort and confusion with its alarm that dogs naturally exit the area that the sound is coming from. It causes no severe pain, swelling or harms a dog in any way, shape, or form. It has a much longer range than dog spray and can be effective up to 50 yards away, a much more comfortable distance than the 6-8 feet afforded by dog repellent spray. However, there is a major drawback with this particular device and that is that they just aren’t as effective at truly subduing an attacking canine as is dog spray. If a dog is very hard of hearing or just attacks in spite of the discomfort caused by this device’s alarm then you are in serious trouble. Whereas with pepper spray the dog is going to feel immense pain and possibly even be blinded temporarily while its eyes are swollen.
So please take all of these facts in account when deciding upon which form of dog repeller is ultimately right for you.

Security Guards Should Carry Stun Batons Like The Stun Gun Flashlight

The job of security guard is one that is often underappreciated and undervalued. These people, although often found sitting alone with not much to do, are often the first, last and only line of defense that a business has in protecting their personal property. If an intruder should illegally enter privately secured property it is up to the security guard to stop this intruder by any means necessary. Surely these men and women deserve to perform their job with some form of protection but what should that protection be? The vast majority of security guards cannot, and in most cases should not, be armed with firearms and I don’t think I need to get into explaining why that is a bad idea as it should be obvious. So the question is what is a self-defense device that can be carried by security guards that is effective yet relatively safe and of course legal? The answer is a stun gun flashlight. I think these are great devices for just about anyone but they really seem custom made for security guards.
First of all the stun gun flashlight is a solid, extremely well built and sturdy flashlight and I can’t think of too many security guards that couldn’t use a flashlight. It also has an extremely high decibel alarm, great for alerting other security personnel that they might need assistance or for scaring the bejeezus out of any intruders. Lastly, the device is what the name implies, a stun gun. Not just a stun gun but a stun baton which is ultimately more effective than a traditional stun device as it gives the user the advantage of having more reach. This way the security guard doesn’t have to be quite as close to an intruder in order to subdue him.
Stun devices are certainly much safer than many other options for self-defense, like a firearm for example. They are also a much more humane alternative as they do not leave the attacker with any lasting side effects. Stun devices can also be every bit as effective as any option one may have for defending themselves. Some police studies have shown stun batons to be as effective as a 9mm handgun without having to take the life or even seriously injure anyone.
So if you are a security guard, know one or possibly employ one please strongly consider arming them with an effective, humane and legal means of defensing themselves with a stun gun flashlight.

The Best Self Defense For Seniors Is The Keychain Alarm

Every day that the sun rises over the eastern horizon it shines upon more senior citizens than it did the day previous. Every night that it settles in the west and night falls upon America that means that there are that many more targets for purse snatching, low-life, morally bankrupt thieves to attack for personal gain. It can be a dangerous world out there and there may be nobody that is truer for then senior citizens living alone. The simple fact of the matter is that as we age we tend to lose a little bit of our natural ability to defend ourselves against attack and those thieves we just talked about know that all too well. There is a very simple, effective, safe, legal and inexpensive way for seniors to defend themselves though and that is with a simple keychain alarm.
Obviously senior citizens have a multitude of choices when it comes to self-defense products. There are stun devices, tasers, pepper spray, mace, batons, firearms, knives, martial arts training and the list goes on and on. Every single one of those alternatives I just mentioned cost more than a keychain alarm, are far more dangerous than a keychain alarm and most require at least some basic training in order to use the device to its maximum capacity. Personal alarms take absolutely no special training whatsoever, cost about the same as a meal at McDonalds and are still extremely effective in deterring criminals.
Personal alarms, usually in the form of a keychain work by emitting an insanely loud siren for such a small device. I am talking about 130 decibels loud and that is roughly the decibel equivalent of sitting in the 10th row of a rock concert. So when some bad guy goes to take your purse, and a wailing alarm that can be heard for a quarter mile goes off, I can assure you that the purse snatcher will understand he has just drawn the attention of every single person in the vicinity that isn’t completely deaf. Attention is the last thing a purse snatcher wants and more often than not this should get him running the other way in fear of being caught. The fact that the alarm comes in the form of a keychain makes it almost impossible to forget at home and also very convenient for everyday use as most also come equipped with a flashlight.
So please don’t hesitate to equip yourself with a simple keychain alarm if you are a senior citizen living alone or to buy one for a senior you know is living alone.

Top 5 Reasons To Carry Guard Alaska Bear Spray While Outdoors

One should never even entertain the idea of camping without Guard Alaska bear spray. The reasons for this should be obvious but here are, in my opinion, the top 5…

Reason no. 5 – Bears are stronger than you are. The bears found in North America, even the smaller black bears which only weigh on average of about 300 pounds, are all much stronger than you are and extremely capable of taking your life. Bear attacks are not very common but they do happen and when they do there is rarely anything short of a catastrophic injury or death as a result.

Reason no. 4 – Guard Alaska spray is extremely effective. Guard Alaska is so effective in fact that it is the only repellent registered by the EPA to repel all species of bear. After all, what good is having a tool of self defense against bears if the tool does not work? If you have any doubts about bear spray’s effectiveness in repelling bears I suggest you check out the multiple videos on YouTube of bear spray being tested in real life situations. Some studies have shown this product to be as effective, and in some cases more effective, than most firearms in repelling bears.

Reason no. 3 – Guard Alaska spray is much safer than alternative means of self defense against bear attack. Actually, aside from bear spray what else is there that would be at all effective aside from a firearm? And if I have to explain why taking a loaded firearm with you on a family camping trip might be somewhat unsafe then you have bigger problems than can be solved by reading this blog.

Reason no. 2 – Guard Alaska is environmentally safe. There are absolutely no ozone-depleting ingredients in Guard Alaska spray. That should be great news for any outdoor enthusiasts. What lover of the outdoors would want to be spraying something into the air that is destroying the outdoors?

Reason no. 1 – Last but certainly not least bear spray is a humane alternative to firearms for repelling a bear. Guard Alaska repellent, much like pepper spray for humans, is extremely effective and will cause pain and temporary blindness by way of swollen mucus membranes but will not leave any permanent or long lasting effects for the bear. Bears were technically here first and we’ve pushed them out of the vast majority of their native land already, let’s not kill them while we are at it shall we? Besides, bear attacks do not often happen because the bear is some sort of blood-thirsty monster. These attacks happen because a human has unwillingly, and perhaps unknowingly, crossed paths with a bear and the bear is frightened for itself or for its cubs.

The Top 5 Reasons To Buy A Cell Phone Stun Device

There are many reasons to carry a tool of non-lethal self-defense with you at all times. Here, in my opinion, are the top 5…
Reason no. 5 – The Cell Phone Stun Gun is ultra-powerful and when I say ultra-powerful I am talking about 4.5 million volts of attack-stopping powerful. You won’t find many stun devices that pack more power than that. The majority of stun devices fall in the 100k-200k volts category on average. 4.5 million volts is enough to stop even the most hardened and viscous attacker dead in their tracks. After all, what good is having a weapon of non-lethal self-defense if that weapon is not effective in actually stopping an attack?
Reason no. 4 – The Cell Phone Stun Gun is incognito and looks exactly like a real cell phone upon even the closest of inspections. This is great because many people might be intimidated by openly carrying a weapon of non-lethal self-defense. With this device one needn’t worry about drawing others attention with a device that is obviously a weapon. Seeing as it is small and compact, like the real cell phone that it pretends to be, people can easily fit it into a purse or pocket and feel even less intimidated and uneasy about openly carrying a weapon.
Reason no. 3 – They are easy to use and require no special training. One needs to simply turn the safety off and press the trigger switch and the device will send a jolt of high voltage electricity to the attacker.
Reason no. 2 – The Cell Phone Stun Gun is very safe, certainly much safer than alternative means of self-defense like a firearm. Also you needn’t worry about accidentally shocking yourself with this device as it comes with two levels of safety been built in. The safety switch must be in the on position (this will cause an LED warning light to come on) and the trigger button pressed before the unit will operate. Also, even if the attacker is touching you while you shock him there is no shock back involved.
Reason no. 1 – Last but certainly not least this device is a much more humane alternative to other forms of self-defense (i.e. guns, knives, bats, fists, etc.). Stun guns work so well in incapacitating an attacker because they send a high voltage shock. They remain non-lethal and rarely cause any lasting effects after a few minutes because that same shock of high voltage electricity is also low amperage. Contrary to belief it is not volts that kill a person, it is amps that prove deadly.

I Think Anti-Gun Advocates Should Be Pro-Stun Device

I would not describe myself as being anti-gun because I do believe in our 2nd amendment rights and that people who have proven themselves to be law-abiding, respectful, drug-free citizens should have the right to bear arms for protection. However, as with most major issues I do not side myself fully with anyone person or party. I can usually, at the very least, understand both sides of an argument relating to a major topic like gun control. I understand that guns cause injuries and fatalities every day and if I’m being honest I would say that if every gun on the planet vanished into thin air right this second we might live in a more peaceful world. However that will not be the case and if the bad guys of the world have access to firearms I feel it is a law-abiding citizen’s constitutional right to protect themselves and their families with a firearm as well.
I have a friend who is a staunch anti-gun advocate and he knows that I am employed in the non-lethal self-defense industry. He is not quite as passionate about being anti-stun gun as he is anti-gun but he is nonetheless against stun devices of any kind as well. This I do not understand as stun devices, including tasers, do not mortally wound an attacker and still allow innocent people to defend themselves in an effective manner. My friend argues that although stun devices are listed as non-lethal they still have proven to be fatal on multiple occasions. I argue back that the world 'multiple' would be more properly replaced with 'extremely rare' and that the stun device could not be the least bit effective without some inherent level of danger. The truth of the matter is that any instrument of self defense could prove fatal in rare circumstances but the amount of fatalities resulting from the use of a stun gun pales in comparison to that of a firearm. More than 99% of the time the attacker is left with no lasting adverse physical effects whatsoever. The same cannot be said for just about anything else that has ever been used as a weapon of self-defense from a firearm to knives to fists.
I truly cannot think of another device that is as humane as the stun gun while still remaining effective enough to actually protect a person against attack. The whole reason stun devices were invented was to give law enforcement and private citizens alike the ability to defend themselves without having to take a life or severely injure another. Again this is merely my opinion but I can’t for the life of me understand why any anti-gun advocate would be against stun devices.

If You Are A Senior Living Alone You Should Consider Pepper Spray As A Means Of Self Defense

There are more senior citizens in the world today than at any other point in history. Heck, there are just a lot more people in the world today period. This means that there is now an abundance of elderly people living alone and unfortunately elderly people are often targeted by scumbag criminals that consider senior citizens ‘easy prey’. As I stated before there are a lot more people in the world period and that means a lot more of these scumbag criminals. Just because a criminal is a conscienceless jerk does not mean that they are stupid and as such they are smart enough to know who makes an easier target for a purse snatching between a 25-year old and a 76-year old grandmother. Time eventually slows all of us down just a tad and takes the edge off of our senses and naturally we lose a bit of the ability to defend ourselves in a physical confrontation. Because of this fact senior citizens, especially those living alone, need to carry with them some means of self-defense. Pepper spray is an extremely effective tool of self-defense that is suitable for almost any senior citizen living unassisted.
There are other options available for senior citizens when it comes to non-lethal self-defense weapons but none, in my opinion, are as effective, relatively safe and easy to use as pepper spray. A person needs no special training to use pepper spray and it’s legal to carry in almost every part of the country. Stun devices and Tasers are also extremely effective in stopping an attacker, as effective as a 9mm handgun according to some police tests, but do require at least some basic training and I feel these devices are much more dangerous and hence I do not recommend them for most seniors. Tasers and stun devices are also illegal in many more areas than are defensive sprays. Pepper spray also can be used by
Pepper spray usually has an effective range of about 6-8 feet depending on the brand, spray canister, and wind conditions. It works by causing intense pain to the attacker’s mucus membranes such as eyes, nose and throat. Not only that but because capsicum, the pepper spray’s active ingredient, is a highly potent inflammatory it also causes swelling in the eyes which temporarily blinds an attacker and makes it almost impossible to continue an attack.
So if you are a senior, or anyone for that matter, living alone please arm yourself with something non-lethal, extremely effective and legal like pepper spray.

Every Runner Should Own A Dog Repeller

I would consider myself a 'runner' in that I strap on a pair of running shoes and set the streets of my neighborhood ablaze with my 9 minute miles about 3 times a week. I live in a middle class neighborhood and it’s one that I won’t hesitate to run at night as it’s a neighborhood I consider relatively safe. However when I do run at night (which is my usual running time as I work during the day and spend time with the family after work) I always make sure to bring 2 very important pieces of protection with me. One is my reflective vest so that cars can better see me in the dark and the second piece of protection is my electronic dog repeller. I used to run with my lab, Kody, and even as he approached old age he was still able to run faster than I and that leads me to believe there aren’t too many wild dogs that I could outrun even if my life depended on it. I have never been attacked by a dog while running and I’d certainly like to keep it that way.
The electronic dog repeller works by emitting a very loud sound that causes such discomfort to the dog that it retreats from the noise. Fortunately for your neighbors the sound is of such a high frequency that it cannot be detected by the human ear. The dog repeller also comes equipped with a flashing strobe which can further be used to confuse the canine to the point where it inherently flees from the area.
As I said, I myself have a dog, a yellow lab named Kody and he’s almost like another kid, in fact we have had him longer than we’ve had our three children. I’ve always loved dogs and as such would never intentionally try to harm one and that is what is so great about the electronic dog repeller, it is a humane instrument that causes the dog no harm. Unlike dog repeller spray that actually causes a dog great pain, albeit temporary, the electronic dog repeller works simply by confusing the dog and causing it enough audible discomfort to exit your area. The electronic dog repeller is so safe and humane that it can actually be used to train dogs and even has a training setting to do just that.
So please, as one dog loving runner to another, please be sure that you are prepared for anything when out for a run in your neighborhood. It is better to have the repeller and not need it then need it and not have it.

Tasers Have Been Wrongfully Vilified

In 2009 a gentleman by the name of Jack Cover passed away and very few people will ever recognize that name. It’s a shame really because Cover’s invention, one he invented in 1974, has saved more lives than we may ever know. His invention was the Taser gun and the very intention of the Taser gun is to save lives, plain and simple. It was invented to give police an alternative to firearms as an effective means of self-defense. Unfortunately for Mr. Cover his invention is often looked at in a negative light.

I would say at least half the YouTube videos that feature a Taser and police in any way are featuring it with the intention of showing it as an example of the police in the video using excessive force. Of those I would say that a very small portion are anything even close to resembling excessive force. I won’t say all though and I understand that there are just some meat-head police officers that do use excessive force and it’s unfortunate. Although it does kind of highlight my point that Tasers shouldn’t be so quickly vilified. If I’m going to have a police officer use excessive force on me with a weapon I can think of a lot worse weapon to be attacked with than a Taser like a .357 for example. My preference would to be attacked by neither but you understand my point. Tasers save lives when it’s the alternative to a weapon like a firearm that leaves a gaping hole in a human that needs to be closed by a doctor or the human will die.

Tasers have killed people but the percentage is unbelievably small, much smaller than any weapon on Earth, including guns, knives, swords, bats, chairs and possibly fists when it comes to anything that has ever been used as a weapon. Any item of self-defense that is even the least bit effective is obviously going to come with some inherent level of danger. The weapon would be useless and ineffective if it didn’t at least have the potential to harm, especially if used inappropriately or incorrectly.

At the end of the day though Tasers were designed by Mr. Cover to allow police to defend themselves and/or subdue an unruly and dangerous perpetrator without having to take that individual's life or severely injure them with a firearm. So before we condemn an instrument of non-lethal self-defense like the Taser let us consider what it was designed to be an alternative to, the firearm.

Handheld Metal Detectors Should Be Used In All Schools Nationwide

There was yet another fatal school shooting in America today, this one in Chardon, Ohio. Once again another school shooting story hits the headlines but will more or less be ignored by most media outlets and completely forgotten about by tomorrow morning. The reason for this is because school shootings have become so commonplace that they aren’t even deemed newsworthy anymore. That says an awful lot about sun violence today and just how easy it is for anyone to secure a gun. It also says a lot about how secure our nation’s schools really are and what steps should be taken to improve our security at our schools. What makes this latest shooting that much more alarming is that once again the shooting has taken place in a school that isn’t in a crime ridden area and in a school and town that isn’t accustomed to this type of violence. In areas where crime is rampant you will be sure to find metal detectors installed in every school yet I defy you to find the same metal detectors used in upper class suburban schools and that to me makes absolutely no sense. How many students need to be injured or killed before we realize the importance of metal detectors in all schools nationwide? It should be entirely evident at this point that no school in America is immune to the possibility of gun violence and as such every school in America should implement the use of handheld metal detectors.
Opponents to such a notion would oppose this idea for two reasons, one would not want to create a prison-like feeling to their child’s school and the other would be the cost of implementing handheld metal detectors. To opponents claiming they don’t want their children’s school feeling like a prison I would say I think that the term ‘prison-like’ would be a bit of an over exaggeration. I have 2 children in public schools and one on the way and I would have absolutely no problem with them being scanned with a metal detector before entering school. To be honest I have a problem with the fact that they are currently not scanned before entering school. I’d much rather they are temporarily ‘hassled’ then shot or stabbed.
To people that would oppose this idea on the grounds of cost, especially in todays weakened economy, I would ask what price they put on human life. The reason I mention handheld metal detectors and not the larger, vastly more expensive, walk-through models is because, well, those walk-through models are vastly more expensive. A Garrett handheld model, the only brand used by professional law enforcement, only costs a couple of hundred dollars. I understand that the public school system has an extremely tight budget but again, what cost do we put on human life?

Do Not Send Your Child Off To College Without A Keychain Alarm

The day your child heads off to college, especially when they will be travelling a fair distance and living on campus, can be an extremely emotional time for parents. It’s the first time that many kids really strike out on their own for the first time and empty nest syndrome can hit hard for mothers, fathers and siblings alike. You worry about their grades, their finances, who they will befriend and of course you worry about their general well-being. With all of this stress and worry during a time that should be celebrated and joyous it would be nice to have a simple and effective way of alleviating some of this stress. Well, there is one and it’s called a keychain alarm.
A keychain alarm is a device that shouldn’t cost more than 20 dollars and can offer protection for your college student that may prove to be absolutely invaluable. Unlike a stun gun, taser, pepper spray or mace a keychain alarm does now work by physically harming an attacker or incapacitating an individual in any physical sense. This makes these alarms entirely safe to carry for any man, woman, child and most importantly your college student. Keychain alarms work by simply emitting an extremely loud alarm that works to both frighten away an attacker and alert everyone within shouting distance that a crime is occurring.
If your curious as to how a sound alone is going to scare an attacker I should make it very clear that we are talking about an alarm so loud it is equivalent to sitting in the 10th row of your average rock concert (most of these keychain alarms register at least 130 decibels!). Even some scumbag looking to attack a student walking alone on a campus at night is smart enough to understand that the loud alarm means people’s attention will be drawn and the chances of him being caught shoot through the roof. Chances are very good that he will turn tail and run immediately for fear of being apprehended.
Another thing about the keychain alarm is that it makes it possible for someone to still call out for help even if an attacker moves quickly and covers a victim’s mouth. While a scumbag attacker is concerned with covering a victim’s mouth so that he or she cannot scream for help, the victim can simply set off the alarm and the attacker’s plans are immediately spoiled.
So please, if you have a child heading off to college in the fall or already have one enrolled please do yourself, your family and your child a huge favor and make sure they have a keychain alarm with them at all times.

A Stun Baton Flashlight Is The Ultimate Non-Lethal Self Defense Tool

Having been in the non-lethal self-defense business for many years I have seen a great deal of self-defense weapons come and go. Some were great and others not so great but the one that has always stood out as the very best and most effective in my opinion is the stun gun flashlight.

First and foremost the stun gun flashlight is a flashlight, and who couldn’t use a flashlight from time to time? The fact that the stun gun flashlight is a device you can use on a daily basis is what really sets it apart from its peers and what makes the device so extraordinary. Stun devices, especially stun batons are wonderful non-lethal self-defense tools but how often will they really be used? Hopefully never.

Stun devices, in my opinion, have an advantage over other non-lethal self-defense weapons like mace and pepper spray in that they don’t allow your opponent to “fight through the pain”. Defensive sprays are extremely effective but there is the small chance, especially if an attacker is under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, that the spray will not immediately and effectively stop the attack from proceeding. A stun device on the other hand leaves this attacker with no choice but to stop attacking. That is because a stun device like the stun gun flashlight does not work on the premise of causing an attacker pain but by completely disrupting the attacker’s neurological pathways. In other words it takes away the attackers ability to control their own body so it doesn’t matter how tough the attacker is or how high their pain threshold.

Stun batons like this one have an advantage over other more traditional stun devices in that they give the user more reach. With traditional handheld stun devices one must actually be touching an attacker in order for the device to work and subsequently subdue the attacker whereas with a stun baton one does not need to be nearly as close to an attacker in order for the baton to do the same job. The best analogy for this is to think about a boxer. One trait they always list before a fight is a boxer’s reach and with good reason as reach is a major advantage in a fight. If you don’t have to be as close to your opponent as your opponent does to you in order to deliver an effective strike then you have a major advantage over that opponent now don’t you?

So if you feel the need to carry a non-lethal self-defense tool I would hope that a device like the stun gun flashlight would be strongly considered.

Stay Safe,

Carl Vouer

Finding The Proper Self Defense For Seniors Could Be As Easy As Knowing Where To Buy Stun Guns

The senior citizen population is one that is growing with each new day as the last of the baby boomers hit retirement age. What this often means for these newly retired baby boomers is more free time spent outdoors, alone and relatively unprotected. What this means for the scumbag criminal purse snatchers of the world is more targets to rob of their jewelry, money and in some unfortunate cases, life. However, there is a humane, legal, effective and safe way for these senior citizens to protect themselves and that is with a stun gun.
The word stun gun immediately brings to many peoples mind an illegal torturous device of an almost medieval quality meant to punish, maim and destroy anything in its path when the truth is quite the opposite. Stun devices were built as a non-lethal alternative to firearms, one that was meant to effectively stop an attacker without robbing that attacker’s parents of their child or children of their father. Stun guns were built on the principal of live and let live and that is why I feel they deserve our praise and not our disdain. They are also quite safe and that is why I feel they can make a wonderful tool of self defense for anyone but especially some senior citizens.
The fact of the matter is that senior citizens are at a higher risk of being attacked then their younger counterparts and the reason for that is quite simple. Criminals with intent to rob someone are going to rob those that they feel will offer them the least resistance. If you could put yourself in the shoes of such a criminal for just a moment I would ask you just one question and that is this, ‘all things being equal, would you be more likely to try and physically take something from a 70 year old or a 35 year old?’. Obviously it would depend on some things but on average the 70 year old is much more likely to appeal to a criminal than is a 35 year old. The simple fact of the matter is that age does eventually slow us down a bit and in the process makes us less capable of fending off a physical assault. So why not give these seniors a way to legally and effectively defend themselves against these criminals? That is exactly what stun guns do; level the playing field against these bad people. There are of course exceptions and stun guns, like any other self-defense device, are not suitable for everybody. Here is the rule of thumb I use for recommending stun devices to seniors, if you can legally operate an automobile you should by all means be capable of operating a stun device. A half ton of steel cruising at 65 miles per hour is certainly a bigger responsibility and far more dangerous than any stun device ever made.

Occupy Wall Street Has Led To Yet Another Incident That Has Given Tasers A Bad Name

Poor Tasers. Once again another incident has occurred that has caused great harm to a wonderful product and once again Tasers have been unjustly vilified. Yet again tasers are being looked at as an evil torturous weapon, yielded by crooked, blood-thirsty cops against meek and innocent do-gooders who did not deserve such harsh and foul treatment. What a crock of (expletive deleted). It’s a shame really because Tasers, manufactured by Taser International, were designed to be a non-lethal alternative to firearms. Let’s think about that for a second. It seems anytime a Taser is used we hear cries about how it was used unfairly but the simple fact of the matter is that I’d rather be tased than shot (or stabbed, beaten, clubbed, etc…) any day of the week. Tasers don’t leave people dead or even with any lasting injuries, Tasers simply incapacitate. They have given law enforcement and private citizens a way to protect themselves and others without having to kill another human being. Instead of vilifying Tasers we should be praising them.
Okay, the Occupy Wallstreet incident I am referring to is the latest one from Washington D.C. where a gentleman in his pajamas is tased. The video can be found on YouTube and after viewing the video I was astonished at reading some of the posts by the ignoramuses of the world trying to suggest that this was somehow an abuse of power buy the police who tased this pajama clad idiot. Listen, you can clearly hear the guy saying “I’ve done nothing wrong” and perhaps that is true but you know what you should do when multiple officers of the law are telling you to stop and cooperate even if you haven’t done anything? You stop and cooperate. If you are being unfairly punished then talk to a lawyer and go after those crooked cops in a legal and sane fashion. This protestor is screaming about how he’s done nothing wrong as he’s trying to run from cops and flailing his arms and legs to avoid them restraining him. That’s called resisting arrest and the lady officer trying to subdue him is half his size. If a 120 pound female officer is trying to get a 200 pound man to stop struggling and play nice and he won’t listen that officer has every right, if not the obligation to those around her to tase that moron. Saying anything to the contrary is just nonsense in my opinion. Should she use a gun next time, how about her fists or maybe a night stick? Think about it logically. If the guy is really innocent and hadn’t done anything he has just hurt his chances at a countersuit against the officer by resisting arrest like the moron that he is.
Tasers have absolutely, emphatically, unquestionably saved many lives since their introduction but they always receive a bad rap and it is something that just really irks me. If a law enforcement officer or private citizen abuses the power Tasers yield and wrongfully tases someone then they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law but this was yet another case where that was not the case.

Show Your Valentine How Much You Care This Year With An Apartment Alarm

Valentine’s Day is here again and with it the giving of the obligatory boxes of chocolates, flowers, teddy bears and mass produced greeting cards. How very romantic it all is to give your sweetheart the exact same thing millions of others are giving their valentines.  The truth of the matter is that most women will be perfectly happy to receive such items from their significant others but why not be different this year and give your valentines something they can actually use like an apartment alarm? Yes, I’ll agree that the words ‘apartment alarm’ doesn’t have the most romantic ring to it but let’s explore exactly what your sweetheart is receiving with such a gift.

First of all apartment alarms are nothing more than exactly what the name implies, alarm systems for your apartment. The great thing about alarm systems for apartments is that they are much less expensive that alarm systems for single family homes and much easier to install. In fact, I think it’s safe to say that alarm systems for a single family home should, and usually are, installed by trained professionals that will end up costing you that much more. The reason for both the cost and ease of installation with apartment alarms is easy to understand as there is simply less ways for a burglar to enter the average apartment residence than there are to enter a single family home, this is especially true if the apartment is on an upper floor that would be inaccessible by any other means than the front door (unless the burglar is Spiderman I suppose). So if your significant other lives on the 3rd floor of an apartment the chances are the only access point is the front door and that front door will be the only point of entrance that will need securing, you can do that with a sensor alarm that costs less than a box of chocolate and a greeting card.

So what is so romantic about an apartment alarm and what is it that makes it such a perfect gift for Valentine’s Day? Well I can tell you now that one thing almost any woman (or man for that matter) wants to feel is protected. Giving her a gift like this will let her know that her safety is of the utmost concern to you and that she just has to love, doesn’t she? Just to be on the safe side you might want to get her a box of chocolates with that.

Happy Valentine’s Day,

Carl Vouer

Ladies, Want To Know What To Get Him For Valentine’s Day? A Cell Phone Stun Gun

Valentine’s Day has traditionally been a holiday where gifts are exchanged but the emphasis of this gift exchange has primarily been on the female. What her boyfriend or husband (hopefully she does not have both) should get her for Valentine’s Day has been a question as old as the holiday itself. Flowers, candy and flowers are the traditional gifts involved and that is all well and good but what about the guys? Don’t they deserve a little something from the ladies this year? Something that lets these men know the women really care about them? I have an idea for a gift the ladies can get their men this year for Valentine’s Day, a cell phone stun gun. It’s uniquely original, which will show how thoughtful you are, and it’s relatively high tech and as we all know men love gadgets. Also it is a device that could very well save his life one day and it doesn’t get much more romantic than saving someone’s life, does it? You should explain to your boyfriend or husband that a non-lethal self-defense item like the cell phone stun gun is not your way of saying that he cannot handle himself in the event of a physical altercation but that he needn’t worry about such things when he’s got the 4.5 million volts of stopping power with him that the stun gun provides.
When he first sees the cell phone stun gun he will assume that what you have given him for a gift is in fact a real cell phone as the cell phone stun gun and a really cell phone are completely and utterly indistinguishable from one another, even upon the closest of inspections. This may confuse him at first but rest assured that once you explain that it is in fact an extremely powerful concealed stun device he will think it is one of the coolest things he has ever received.
Stun devices like this work not by injuring or causing great pain to an assailant but by delivering a high voltage, low amperage (contrary to common belief it is amps that kill, not volts) current of electricity that completely disrupts and incapacitates the attackers central nervous system. The good news for your boyfriend is that he gets to come home safe to you, the good news for the attacker is that he gets to take a ride in a police car with no lasting physical ailments.
So please think outside the box this Valentine’s Day and get your man something he’ll really love and more importantly, can really use.

Happy Valentine’s Day,
Carl Vouer

Think Outside The Box (Of Chocolates) This Valentine’s Day And Get Her Pepper Spray

There are two ways you can play Valentine’s Day this year. You can get your significant other what every other man is getting his sweetheart or you can be thoughtful and original. If you want to get what every other man is getting his sweetheart you’ll want to go the candy, flowers or jewelry route. This is all fine and well and you will find plenty of women who enjoy candy, flowers and jewelry (my wife included) but why be like everyone else and get another forgettable gift on another forgettable holiday? If you ask me getting your significant other candy, flowers or jewelry simply says ‘I only care enough to get what society tells me I should be getting you on this day and not enough to have an original thought and get you something unique’. Go ahead and write that in the card you give your girlfriend along with her red roses and see what her reaction is.
Now, the other alternative is to get your sweetie something completely original and something she can really use and that is pepper spray. I know that doesn’t sound very romantic but if you think about it what is the message you are sending when giving your Valentine a canister of pepper spray? Ito me personally it says that you care very much for her and want her to be protected at all times. Feeling protected and wanting to be protected is something that is very basic for all human beings and your significant other is certainly no exception. A box of chocolate or half dozen long stemmed roses is fine and dandy but it isn’t going to do her any good when she’s walking alone without you and is attacked by a mugger. Pepper spray on the other hand will put that mugger in his place and make sure your sweetheart gets home safe. And defensive sprays like pepper spray and mace are non-lethal and leave no lasting side effects so giving her pepper spray for Valentine’s day will show her that you are not only interested in protecting her but that you also care deeply for your fellow man. Protective and caring are two wonderful character traits that any woman adores. So do yourself and your loved one a favor this Valentine’s Day and get her something she can really use, pepper spray. Just so you know, defensive sprays come in all colors including pink.

Happy Valentine’s Day,
Carl Vouer

The Electronic Dog Repeller Is A Very Misunderstood Tool

Spending the vast majority of my professional life in the non-lethal self-defense industry I have witnessed a great deal of confusion as to the products I work with and have read a great deal of misinformation about those same products. The items I am referring to include tasers, stun devices, pepper spray, mace, personal alarms, steel batons, animal repellent spray and a host of other highly effective, non-lethal, life-saving devices. But amongst all of these devices there may be none more misunderstood than the electronic dog repeller.

When people hear the words ‘electronic dog repeller’, for whatever reason, Michael Vick-like images appear in most people’s minds, as if this device is one that is used to torture misbehaving canines when in fact nothing could be farther from the truth. First of all I am a huge dog lover; just ask my 70 pound yellow lab Kody.  I would never in a million years sell or recommend a device meant to hurt these gentle creatures. The sad and unfortunate fact though is that not all canines are as gentle and loving as my Kody. Some dogs are vicious and dangerous by way of being neglected and mistreated by scumbag dog owners who have no right owning a dog. For these rare cases we need to be able to effectively protect ourselves but at the same time be able to do so with a device that is humane and cannot possibly hurt a dog and that is what the electronic dog repeller is all about.

This device uses the latest ultrasonic technology to repel and prevent the approach of unwanted dogs or dogs whose intent is questionable at best. It uses a frequency that is too high to be heard by human beings and is audible only to the dog. Again this high frequency sound causes the dog enough discomfort to simply make the dog steer clear of you but does not cause that dog any pain or inflict any harm in any way whatsoever and it is effective up to about 40 feet. It also comes with a super bright flashing strobe that can be used to further confuse and temporarily blind an unwanted dog that may be headed your way. This strobe can also be used as a flashlight which can always come in handy. These devices are ideal for those that take jogs or walks (I am more the walking variety) at night and may have dogs in the area they know to be a tad unfriendly.

There is also a training setting on these devices and I can tell you from experience that using these as a training tool can be a very effective way of humanely training any dog. I hope this has helped clear up any misconceptions people may have about this wonderful device.
