I think self defense classes are great for just about anybody. Not only can they help teach you how to protect yourself in the event of an attack but they can also help build confidence, lose weight, and increase your overall mental and physical well-being. Seniors can absolutely benefit from self defense classes in the same way that people of any age can but I think it best that any course on self defense for seniors also include training seniors on the proper use of pepper spray. I don’t think pepper spray training is unique to senior citizens either and any law abiding citizen of any age could benefit from carrying and knowing how to use pepper spray. I just believe that seniors, more than any age group, could perhaps benefit the most from this training.
Seniors can certainly learn to defend themselves using only what they were born with, meaning their hands and feet, but a defensive spray like pepper spray can really be of great help especially if they are attacked by someone much bigger, stronger and faster than they are. Also, pepper spray training is something that can be taught in one class, as opposed to the weeks, months and years it can take to become proficient in any martial arts discipline. Some seniors may also be lacking the strength, speed and agility it takes to effectively execute many of the moves involved in martial arts. A 95 pound, 80-year old female is going to have problems fighting off a 200 pound, 25 year old attacker no matter how long she has been studying martial arts but the size and age difference can be immediately made up for if that 80-year old lady sprays her attacker in the face with pepper spray.
Like I stated earlier, the proper use of pepper spray is something that can be taught in just one class but I think the actual motion of drawing the pepper spray from a pocket or purse, aiming and spraying is something that can be (and should be) practiced in much the same way that one constantly practices a punch, kick or choke hold. When someone actually finds themself in a physical altercation with an attacker the person’s nerves can be rattled greatly and with the adrenaline flowing it is always best if the motions have been practiced to the point where it is second nature even under the most stressful moments.
So if you are a senior citizen, especially one living alone and unassisted, please consider a self defense course but also remember that training with a defensive spray should be part of the curriculum of that course.

If Zimmerman Would Have Known Where To Buy Pepper Spray This Whole Ordeal Wouldn’t Exist
The whole situation surrounding George Zimmerman, the late Trayvon Martin, their families and the media in general is truly a sad an unfortunate one, as is any situation where a human being has lost their life. Whether you believe racism played a major role and that Trayvon was more or less murdered in cold blood or that Zimmerman was truly acting in self-defense the fact of the matter is that a young man has lost his life and parents have lost their child. Not to mention the fact that Zimmerman and his family, whether Zimmerman acted unjustly or not, has lost any semblance of a normal life that they could ever hope to experience after this tragedy.
I do not yet have an opinion regarding Zimmerman’s innocence until all the facts of the case are presented (as best they can be presented as half of the people involved in the incident can no longer speak for themselves). I will say however that I don’t agree with civilians walking around with concealed firearms as was the case with George Zimmerman. Zimmerman was licensed to carry the weapon he used to kill Trayvon Martin and so from a legal perspective he was not in violation of any law for simply carrying the weapon on his person but I just think it’s a recipe for disaster to have people walking around with loaded weapons and this latest incident should prove that.
Let us say though that Zimmerman’s account of the situation happened as he explained it to police and that Martin had attacked him and that Zimmerman was merely defending himself against this attack. That means that the crime of punching someone is now punishable by death in this case and that is grossly outrageous to me. Zimmerman, and any other civilian wishing to defend themselves, can do so without having to end another’s life and that is with pepper spray.
Pepper spray is an extremely effective alternative to firearms and can stop an attacker dead in his or her tracks without having to take that attacker’s life. Had Mr. Zimmerman chosen to carry pepper spray and not a firearm we would never have heard of either one of these guys. Trayvon would be around to tell his side of the story and both of their lives and the lives of both of their families would not be so dramatically, negatively and forever changed. Instead of a national news story that is once again dividing us all we’d have a little news snippet on page 2 of the local paper there in Florida.
So please, if you are one of the many Americans walking the streets with a concealed firearm, legally or otherwise, please consider a humane alternative to ending the life of another human and carry pepper spray instead.

Which Is Better, Dog Repellent Spray Or An Electronic Dog Repeller?
Dog attacks are much more common than people may realize and as such people (especially deliverymen, mailmen, runners, etc…) need to be prepared to thwart an attack by a potentially dangerous canine. Two of the more popular products for repelling a dog are dog repellent spray and the electronic dog repeller. But which of these is better? That is a question that might not be so easily answered until we evaluate exactly what each of these self-defense items really are and what each of these devices actually do.
First let’s start with dog spray and explaining exactly what that is. Dog repellent spray is just that, a spray that repels dogs. The truth of the matter is that this spray is nothing more than pepper spray, the same exact ingredients found in pepper spray for humans. It’s extremely effective against both humans and dogs because the spray works as an extreme inflammatory that causes severe burning and swelling in the mucus membranes of the dog that is sprayed and that can not only cause extreme discomfort but actually temporarily blind an attacking dog (due to the swelling of the eyes). The only drawback with dog repellent spray is that it has a limited range of about 6-8 feet and that is pretty close quarters for a dog that is in the midst of trying to attack you. Plus it does cause immense pain, albeit temporary, to the dog and so one should be confident that the dog that you are spraying was indeed a threat to your personal safety and that the spraying was justified in that sense.
The electronic dog repeller is an entirely different self-defense tool and works not by emitting an inflammatory spray but by emitting an extremely high decibel sound that is also very high frequency and hence can only be heard by canines. This device causes enough discomfort and confusion with its alarm that dogs naturally exit the area that the sound is coming from. It causes no severe pain, swelling or harms a dog in any way, shape, or form. It has a much longer range than dog spray and can be effective up to 50 yards away, a much more comfortable distance than the 6-8 feet afforded by dog repellent spray. However, there is a major drawback with this particular device and that is that they just aren’t as effective at truly subduing an attacking canine as is dog spray. If a dog is very hard of hearing or just attacks in spite of the discomfort caused by this device’s alarm then you are in serious trouble. Whereas with pepper spray the dog is going to feel immense pain and possibly even be blinded temporarily while its eyes are swollen.
So please take all of these facts in account when deciding upon which form of dog repeller is ultimately right for you.

If You Are A Senior Living Alone You Should Consider Pepper Spray As A Means Of Self Defense
There are more senior citizens in the world today than at any other point in history. Heck, there are just a lot more people in the world today period. This means that there is now an abundance of elderly people living alone and unfortunately elderly people are often targeted by scumbag criminals that consider senior citizens ‘easy prey’. As I stated before there are a lot more people in the world period and that means a lot more of these scumbag criminals. Just because a criminal is a conscienceless jerk does not mean that they are stupid and as such they are smart enough to know who makes an easier target for a purse snatching between a 25-year old and a 76-year old grandmother. Time eventually slows all of us down just a tad and takes the edge off of our senses and naturally we lose a bit of the ability to defend ourselves in a physical confrontation. Because of this fact senior citizens, especially those living alone, need to carry with them some means of self-defense. Pepper spray is an extremely effective tool of self-defense that is suitable for almost any senior citizen living unassisted.
There are other options available for senior citizens when it comes to non-lethal self-defense weapons but none, in my opinion, are as effective, relatively safe and easy to use as pepper spray. A person needs no special training to use pepper spray and it’s legal to carry in almost every part of the country. Stun devices and Tasers are also extremely effective in stopping an attacker, as effective as a 9mm handgun according to some police tests, but do require at least some basic training and I feel these devices are much more dangerous and hence I do not recommend them for most seniors. Tasers and stun devices are also illegal in many more areas than are defensive sprays. Pepper spray also can be used by
Pepper spray usually has an effective range of about 6-8 feet depending on the brand, spray canister, and wind conditions. It works by causing intense pain to the attacker’s mucus membranes such as eyes, nose and throat. Not only that but because capsicum, the pepper spray’s active ingredient, is a highly potent inflammatory it also causes swelling in the eyes which temporarily blinds an attacker and makes it almost impossible to continue an attack.
So if you are a senior, or anyone for that matter, living alone please arm yourself with something non-lethal, extremely effective and legal like pepper spray.

Think Outside The Box (Of Chocolates) This Valentine’s Day And Get Her Pepper Spray
There are two ways you can play Valentine’s Day this year. You can get your significant other what every other man is getting his sweetheart or you can be thoughtful and original. If you want to get what every other man is getting his sweetheart you’ll want to go the candy, flowers or jewelry route. This is all fine and well and you will find plenty of women who enjoy candy, flowers and jewelry (my wife included) but why be like everyone else and get another forgettable gift on another forgettable holiday? If you ask me getting your significant other candy, flowers or jewelry simply says ‘I only care enough to get what society tells me I should be getting you on this day and not enough to have an original thought and get you something unique’. Go ahead and write that in the card you give your girlfriend along with her red roses and see what her reaction is.
Now, the other alternative is to get your sweetie something completely original and something she can really use and that is pepper spray. I know that doesn’t sound very romantic but if you think about it what is the message you are sending when giving your Valentine a canister of pepper spray? Ito me personally it says that you care very much for her and want her to be protected at all times. Feeling protected and wanting to be protected is something that is very basic for all human beings and your significant other is certainly no exception. A box of chocolate or half dozen long stemmed roses is fine and dandy but it isn’t going to do her any good when she’s walking alone without you and is attacked by a mugger. Pepper spray on the other hand will put that mugger in his place and make sure your sweetheart gets home safe. And defensive sprays like pepper spray and mace are non-lethal and leave no lasting side effects so giving her pepper spray for Valentine’s day will show her that you are not only interested in protecting her but that you also care deeply for your fellow man. Protective and caring are two wonderful character traits that any woman adores. So do yourself and your loved one a favor this Valentine’s Day and get her something she can really use, pepper spray. Just so you know, defensive sprays come in all colors including pink.
Happy Valentine’s Day,

Is Pepper Spray Right For You?
Being in the non-lethal self-defense business my responsibility has always been to help protect innocent people defend themselves against potential attackers through non-lethal means. When discussing non-lethal self-defense the talk often turns to the 2 most popular and most effective self-defense weapons, stun devices and defensive sprays. Stun devices are extremely effective but I’d like to, at least in this article, discuss defensive sprays (often referred to as pepper spray or mace) and more importantly whether or not pepper spray is right for you personally.
When answering this question it is obvious that one needs to fully understand just what pepper spray really is, and perhaps just as importantly what it is not. Pepper spray is really just what the name implies, a defensive spray that utilizes an active ingredient called OC (Oleoresin Capsicum) and is exactly the same ingredient that makes your mouth burn, eyes water and nose run when eating something with hot peppers in it. Of course the ‘hotness’ of most defensive sprays (certainly any that will prove effective) are much ‘hotter’ than any pepper known to man and that is exactly why they are so effective. A pepper’s hotness is rated on something called the Scoville Scale which is simply a unit of measurement to measure the ‘hotness’ of a pepper. So for comparison a raw habanero rates about 250,000 Scoville units and if you’ve ever had a habanero you’ll no doubt understand how blazing hot a pepper that measures a quarter million units is. There is a pepper called the Naga Viper pepper that the Guinness Book of World Records recognized as ‘the hottest pepper in the world’ and that pepper measures about 1.3 million Scoville units. Most of the defensive sprays sold in the U.S. measure about 3-5 million Scoville units, or about 1,000 times hotter than a Jalapeno pepper. Now imagine this kind of heat in liquid form and sprayed into the eyes, nose and mouth of an attacker and you can understand why pepper spray is so popular and so effective.
The question remains though, is pepper spray right for you? First and foremost I think that anyone carrying a defensive spray needs to be a mature, law-abiding citizen with zero criminal history. Also keep in mind that with pepper spray’s effectiveness comes an inherent level of danger for both the assailant and the user and as such careful consideration should be used before purchasing a defensive spray. One of the biggest concerns is that pepper spray could be taken away by an assailant and used against the original user and if the user is nervous, which would be completely understandable in the case of an attack, it could further hamper the user’s ability to remove the safety, point and spray before the attacker grabs a hold of them and ultimately the defensive spray. More often than not though I think the likelihood of a defensive spray being taken from a user is much higher with people who have been slowed by advanced age. I always use this simple test when deciding if a senior citizen should carry a defensive spray, if you can drive an automobile then you should by all means be able to handle a small canister of pepper spray in self-defense.
So in short if you are an able-bodied, responsible member of society that is looking to ensure your own safety then i feel that pepper spray is not only right for you but highly recommended.

Know Where To Buy Pepper Spray And Don’t Become A Victim This Holiday Season
It’s that time of year again when the malls are packed with busy little shoppers. The holiday buzz is in the air and last second shoppers are scurrying about, looking for that perfect gift for the special people on their list. Unfortunately, amidst all this cheerful holiday shopping lies a dark truth about this time of year and that is that this time of year leads to an increased number of assaults and robberies, especially in and around malls and specifically mall parking lots. Your common criminal does not care that it is the season of giving; all he sees is an increased number of potential targets walking alone through a dimly lit mall parking lot with a purse full of cash. And if by chance the poor, defenseless shoppers they mug in the parking lot don’t have cash they can always rob these shoppers of their newly purchased gifts.
My point here is to make you aware of the fact that when you are out at the mall shopping this holiday season you may want to take extra precautions to ensure that you do not become another tragic holiday statistic. For one I would definitely shop alone as having a friend with you will always markedly decrease your chances of being targeted by potential criminals and if you must shop alone make sure you park in a well-lit area that has security surveillance of some kind. Last but certainly not least it would behoove you to carry some form of non-lethal self-defense so that if you are confronted by someone that isn’t feeling the holiday spirit you can defend yourself in a safe but effective manner.
You have a few choices when considering non-lethal self-defense tools this holiday season but the one I think that has really proven ideal for just about anyone is a defensive spray. Pepper spray, or mace as some call it even though Mace is a brand of pepper spray, is a highly effective pepper based spray that works by causing severe inflammation, swelling and intense pain to the attackers mucus membranes (eyes, nose, mouth, throat). The effects are temporary and almost never cause any lingering negative side effects which also makes pepper spray not only safe but humane as well. Defensive sprays are also extremely easy to use and require no special training whatsoever which is another reason they are so ideal for just about anyone.
So this holiday season, when you are out there getting your shopping done at the local mall please remember to keep yourself safe and consider carrying a defensive spray of some kind.

What Makes Better Self Defense, Stun Guns Or Pepper Spray?
When choosing to carry a tool of non-lethal self-defense (which by the way I think is a great idea for every responsible, law-abiding, citizen) the question that most often arises is which product works best. The 2 most popular forms of non-lethal self-defense certainly seem to be stun guns and pepper spray and between these 2 you have advantages and disadvantages over the other. As such it isn’t so easy to answer the question ‘which is best?’ because it will often depend on what exactly you are looking for and who will be carrying these items. So let us discuss both and the advantages that either one may have over the other and perhaps you can decide for yourself which would be more beneficial to you personally.
Let us talk about stun guns first. Stun devices work by emitting a high-voltage electrical charge that disrupts the central nervous system of an attacker, rendering him or her helpless to continue the attack as they are no longer in control of their own motor functions. These devices are wonderfully effective and one distinct advantage that I can see with a stun device is that the attacker cannot ‘work through the pain’ and continue attacking because a stun gun doesn’t really work by distributing pain so much as just attacking the nervous system and putting down an attacker regardless of that attacker’s pain threshold. This also helps if the attacker is high on drugs as the electrical charge to the nervous system will work the same way it would with someone who is not on drugs. One major disadvantage to a stun device is that unlike with a Taser there are no projectiles and hence a stun device has very limited range. The stun gun must actually be physically touching an attacker to work and that can make for a potentially hairy situation if the person using the stun device is considerably slower and/or weaker than the attacker. This makes stun guns a better choice for someone of decent physical shape.
Stun Device Advantage: Highly reliable and effective against any attacker. Disadvantage: Range
Pepper spray can also be very effective. Pepper spray works by emitting a spray that swells mucus membranes of an attacker and causes intense pain and burning in those mucus membranes. This includes the eyes (which can cause temporary blindness), nose, mouth, throat and lungs. The advantage that pepper spray has over a stun device is without question its range. Most defensive sprays have about a 6-8 foot range wherein they can be effective (depending on wind conditions and what have you). The disadvantage can be that if the spray is not directly sprayed in the assailants face the assailant can continue to attack and even if they are sprayed in the face there is a chance the attacker, unlike with a stun gun, can ‘work through’ the pain and continue to attack. These may be a better choice than a stun gun for elderly people or for people who will be considerably slower than and/or not as strong as their potential attacker.
Pepper Spray Advantage: Range Disadvantage: May not be as effective as a stun device.
Both of these items can be very reliable life savers and I would certainly recommend one or the other to just about anyone looking to feel secure while walking the streets of this fine nation. I didn’t mention price as a disadvantage for either as they are both extremely affordable. Hopefully I’ve explained the advantages and disadvantages of each with enough clarity for you to make your own choice as to which would work best for you.
Stay Safe,
Carl Vouer

Pepper Spray Advantage: Range Disadvantage: May not be as effective as a stun device.
Both of these items can be very reliable life savers and I would certainly recommend one or the other to just about anyone looking to feel secure while walking the streets of this fine nation. I didn’t mention price as a disadvantage for either as they are both extremely affordable. Hopefully I’ve explained the advantages and disadvantages of each with enough clarity for you to make your own choice as to which would work best for you.

I Know Pepper Spray is Effective but is it Safe?
Is pepper spray safe? That’s a good question and one that gets asked quite a bit when people are considering non-lethal self-defense measures. Unfortunately it is a question that does not have a cut and dry answer. To answer this question let us first answer a more basic and rudimentary question and that is “what is pepper spray?”
Pepper spray is a non-lethal defensive spray made of an active ingredient called OC (Oleoresin Capsicum). Oleoresin Capsicum is a natural ingredient and is basically the same ingredient that makes hot peppers “hot”. The “hotness” of various peppers is measured using a system of measurement called Scoville units. Have you ever bitten into a Habanero pepper? Those are crazy hot and probably made your eyes water and nose run as the spiciness effects your mucus membranes. Could you imagine crushing that habanero up and rubbing it in your eyes and nose? Habaneros are a pretty hot pepper and measure about 200,000 Scoville units. For comparison’s sake, pure capsaicin ranks about 16,000,000! Most commercial pepper sprays that are available for civilian purchase rank about 2,5000,000. What this Oleoresin Capsicum does once it contacts the mucus membranes of an attacker is felt immediately. The capillaries of the eyes will burn and dilate and cause temporary blindness, inflammation of the attacker’s breathing tubes will cause difficulty in breathing and the overall tremendous burning sensation should last anywhere up to 30 minutes, giving you plenty of time to flee the area and call the police.
So that is what pepper spray is and why it is effective but the question is whether or not pepper spray is safe. I think the short answer for this is yes, pepper spray is safe. The very few fatalities that have taken place as a result of being sprayed with a defensive spray have occurred because of an allergic reaction much the same way that peanuts have caused fatalities through allergic reaction. The effects are certainly painful as all get out but the pain and temporary blindness are necessary or pepper spray would not be effective. I consider stun guns to be safe as well but there must be some level of inherent danger with any non-lethal self-defense product or they would not be effective. Pepper spray is safe enough that I bought some for my own mother, wife and will do the same for my daughter when she is of the proper age to carry such a device.
So I guess the real answer to the question ‘is pepper spray safe?’ is to say that it is just as dangerous as it needs to be to stop an attack and not permanently injure or kill anyone. It is certainly not a product to be taken lightly but one that I think every law-abiding citizen should carry with them at all times.

Seniors Don’t Need Karate For Self Defense They Need To Buy Personal Alarms
Self defense may be the most god given, naturally instinctual right ever bestowed upon us. The defense of one’s own self should be of utmost importance to every man, woman and child alive today. After all, as the old saying goes, we cannot learn to love others if we do not first learn to love ourselves. In my opinion there is no more important group of people that need to concern themselves with self defense than senior citizens. Self defense for seniors is ever so important because seniors, like younger children, may not be as fast and strong as a potential attacker but unlike children are often alone when such an attack may occur. For this reason seniors need to carry with them something that will help stop an attacker. Sure senior citizens could legally carry a firearm for protection in some areas of the country but firearms have a bad habit of stopping people from breathing. I suggest something that is still effective but immensely more humane and practical. Something that won’t endanger the senior citizen using it would be best; I can’t think of an item that better fits this description than a personal alarm.
Personal alarms are custom made for seniors for a multitude of reasons but first and foremost they require no effort to carry and need absolutely no special training to use. Many personal alarms come in the form of keychains so as to make it impossible to forget the alarm when leaving the house. And above all these personal alarms work by making a wailing noise so ungodly loud that it alerts any and every one in shouting distance that something is amiss. They do not shoot a projectile as a firearm or Taser might, they do not use electricity or cause pain to the attacker in any way shape or form. This is what makes them so utterly safe to carry yet very effective in stopping an attack.
My heartfelt and sincere hope is that nobody would ever have to actually use any tool of non-lethal self defense and fortunately the chances are that most people will never have to but the peace of mind that can come from carrying one makes it entirely worth the few dollars that most of these devices cost. And what’s more, many of these personal alarms come equipped with flashlights so as to make them useful even if they never perform the job they were built to do which is stop an attacker. Sometimes you just need a flashlight and having one on your keychain or in your pocket or purse is always convenient.

Humane Self Defense Starts With Knowing Where To Buy Pepper Spray
When you hear the words ‘self defense’ there are a few images that may come to mind. Even though I have been in the business of non-lethal self-defense products for many years now I still hear those words and picture someone doing karate. The words are pretty self-explanatory though; self defense is simply the act of defending one’s self. I think everyone should have a plan for defending themselves and in my humble opinion I think any of these ways should include being as humane to your fellow man as possible and should by all means be non-lethal. I don’t want to be responsible for taking the life of another regardless of the circumstances. I believe everyone should have some means of defending themselves at all times but at the same time I truly believe in the motto ‘live and let live’. As such I always make sure I’m carrying some tool of non-lethal self-defense on my person at all times and more often than not this tool is pepper spray.
Pepper spray is immensely effective at stopping an attack. In fact some police studies have shown that pepper spray can be every bit as effective as some handguns and unlike a handgun it can stop an attack without sending another human being to the hospital or morgue. Why should we care so much about the well-being of someone who has just tried to attack us when that person obviously doesn’t have the same regard for our life or well-being? How about because we can be the better man (or woman) and show compassion for others even if they might not show the same compassion and humanity for us. Also people can change and some criminals can be rehabilitated and we should perhaps give people a second chance to redeem themselves, a little difficult to do if you’ve just been shot in the head. For example, let’s say some poor guy who is really down on his luck finds himself strung out on drugs and to get his next fix decides to snatch a purse. This gentleman is breaking the law and should certainly be punished but does he deserve to die or even be permanently wounded? I don’t feel he does.
Aside from the moral aspects of choosing pepper spray over other forms of self-defense it is just a weapon that is ideal for any god-fearing, law-abiding citizen in that it is not only effective but easy to carry and extremely easy to use without any formal training. So for all of these reasons I hope that the next time you are considering an item of self defense that you make it pepper spray.

You May Want To Find Out Where To Buy Pepper Spray If You Don’t Like Being Mugged
Do you like being mugged? Is being dragged down a dark alley and having the holy hell beaten out of you sound like a great way to spend an evening? Do you watch the news and see all of the violent altercations that occur each and every day and think to yourself ‘Gosh. Why can’t this happen to me’? If you answered yes to any of these questions then you needn’t read further because this article is not intended to help people like you. Also, I think you may have serious mental problems and should probably go and have those checked out by a team of professionals. For those of you who don’t enjoy being viciously attacked and robbed you may want to read on as this article may be just what you’ve been looking for.
The world is, unfortunately, a very violent place and I don’t know if that is something that will ever change. Because of this we need to always be prepared to defend ourselves should we find ourselves the victim of a violent altercation. There are a few ways to do this, you could learn martial arts but that takes time and is still not going to be entirely effective if for example your attacker is 200 pounds heavier than you and has a club he intends to hit you with. You could carry a loaded firearm but that is illegal in most places and for good reason, because firearms kill people each and every day. So let’s be practical and consider an effective yet non-lethal and relatively safe alternative like pepper spray.
Pepper spray takes no special training to use, is wildly effective, non-lethal, leaves no permanent side effects, easy to carry and is legal in almost all parts of the country. For all of these reasons I think it would behoove everyone (law-abiding, well-intentioned people anyway) to find out where to buy pepper spray so that they can effectively, responsibly and humanely defend themselves at all times. If someone approaches you with an obvious intent to attack you simply need to point, release the safety if one is present, spray, and evacuate the area as quickly as possible. What you will leave behind is an attacker whose eyes, nose, throat and lungs feel like they are on fire but one that will recover in time, hopefully just in time to take a seat in the back of a squad car.
They sell pepper spray just about anywhere these days, from convenient stores to sports stores (as they make great items of self defense for runners), but I’ve always found that the best deals can be found while shopping online. So please do yourself and your loved ones a favor and discover where to buy pepper spray and do just that. Thanks.

Stress Reducing Tip 1 – Buy a Personal Keychain Alarm
The world becomes a very stressful place as we get older. I can remember as a child my biggest concerns were where to ride my bike or whether or not I should trade my brother that rookie Roger Clemens Topps card for the rookie Andre Dawson card (I did by the way). That was how stress free my life really was and I didn’t really take the time to appreciate it. 36 years, 1 wife, 3 kids and a mortgage payment later I find myself inundated with varying degrees of stress at all times. I worry about money and about the safety of my family and about providing for them for the long haul. When I have the opportunity to quell some of these stresses in a manner that is both extremely easy and affordable I always jump at that opportunity and I recently just found a way to lessen my stress and concern over the safety of my wife and children, the keychain alarm.
I truly believe that the vast majority of individuals on this planet are decent, good-hearted and well-intentioned. However, there are those out there that just don’t seem to be wired quite right and have an evil streak about them that I’d rather not encounter and that I would certainly rather my family or any loved ones encounter. For this reason i have equipped my wife with a few tools of self-defense and one of those, and possibly one of the most effective, is the keychain alarm. The keychain alarm is exactly that, an alarm so small that it doubles as a keychain. It also has a very bright flashlight built in to the device that comes in very handy when getting into the house or car at night.
The keychain alarms work by emitting an extremely high decibel alarm (130 decibels to be exact) that should confuse and frighten any would-be assailant who isn’t deaf as a post. 130 decibels is roughly equivalent to sitting in the front rows of a Megadeth concert if you need a basis for comparison. Not only should this powerful little alarm frighten the attacker with its noise but it should also attract the attention of every man woman and child in the vicinity and this often helps to get the police called. As long as the assailant isn’t also a complete moron they will know this and that is what frightens them you see.
So please for your sake and the sake of your loved ones please consider cutting your stress levels and equipping anyone you love with a powerful little keychain alarm.

Self Defense for Seniors – Step 1: Know Where to Buy Pepper Spray
I am, always have been and always will be very passionate about helping people protect and defend themselves. I adamantly believe that every law-abiding, god-fearing, morally decent man, woman and child (above the age of 18) should have the right (if not the obligation) to carry some tool of non-lethal self-defense on them at all times. The people I really feel this applies to the most however are those people that are less able to protect and defend themselves than the average citizen, I am referring to senior citizens. As the body ages it becomes a bit weaker and slower and this is just an unfortunate fact of life that is as inescapable as any. The beautiful thing is that these seniors need not worry as there is a very simple, affordable, safe and effective way to defend themselves and that is with pepper spray.
Pepper spray has offered people a way to protect themselves in a relatively safe and certainly effective way for many years now. Pepper spray works by dispensing a defensive chemical that consists of an ingredient called Oleoresin Capsicum, this is the same chemical that is found in chili peppers and is what makes these peppers so spicy. When spraying an attacker with pepper spray you are literally spraying insanely hot pepper into their eyes, nose, throat and lungs. And we aren’t talking about your run-of-the-mill hot pepper either; we are talking about a spray so hot it completely debilitates your attacker. For comparison sake let’s take a look at the hottest pepper you are likely to ever eat in your life, let’s say a raw habanero pepper, this pepper rates at about 200,000 scoville units ( a unit of measurement used to determine a peppers ‘spiciness). If the average person were to pop a habanero pepper into their mouth and start chewing they would instantly start tearing up, their nose would begin running and you would see a look of immense pain on the persons face. Now let’s say that habanero was about 25 times as hot as the average habanero pepper and you were to crush it up and rub it in someone’s eyes, nose, throat and lungs. Do you think that person would possibly be in some pain? Do you think that person might be able to continue an attack with the same vigor they had before you put them in such an intense hurt locker? I doubt it and that is exactly why pepper spray is so effective. Most commercial pepper sprays that are available to the public rate about 5,000,000 scoville units.
What really helps separate pepper spray form other weapons of self-defense is that it is both non-lethal (in almost every single case) and does not leave an attacker with any permanent damage as the effects of pepper spray usually wear off completely after 30-35 minutes. So please consider pepper spray if you are concerned about defending yourself.

Buy Pepper Spray Online and You May Have the Ultimate Self Defense for Seniors
Two months ago the U.S. Census Bureau released a brief regarding the data they had accumulated through the massive 2010 Census. As was to be expected the nation’s median age got a bit older as our post World War II baby-boomers aged into senior citizens. In 2000 the median age was 35.3 and last year it was up almost 2 full years to 37.2. So what does all of this have to do with pepper spray and self-defense for seniors? Well, everything actually. What we have is a lot more senior citizens living in America, walking its streets, living alone and being independent. What does this mean for scumbag criminals who like to prey on people they consider weaker than themselves? Simple, it means more potential targets.
So what is a senior citizen to do to help ensure his or her own safety? There are a few options but the one I’d like to discuss today happens to be one of my favorite and I feel most effective options when discussing self-defense for senior citizens and that is pepper spray. Pepper spray is a non-lethal weapon of self-defense that is ideal for any responsible, law-abiding citizen but I really feel like it is the ideal tool for seniors. For one it takes almost no strength to carry and operate a small handheld bottle of pepper spray. Secondly, defensive sprays take almost no training to operate safely and effectively. You simply release the safety with the flick of your thumb, point and spray.
Pepper spray works by shooting a highly concentrated blast of capsaicin, which is a chemical that is derived from chili peppers. Think about how hot a dab of Tabasco sauce from your refrigerator might be and then multiply that spiciness a few thousand times over and then imagine that rubbed into your eyes, nose, throat and lungs. Chances are very good that you would stop whatever activity you were involved in, say mugging an old lady, and keel over in immense pain and anguish. Fortunately, pepper spray is a non-lethal weapon and almost never results in death or even any lingering effects. I want the senior citizens of America to be able to stop an attacker without killing them. Let’s just subdue these scumbags and let the long arm of the law deal with their punishment.
So if you are a senior citizen or really a person of any age that just wants the security of knowing that they have the ability to stop even the fiercest of attackers please strongly consider buying pepper spray.

What is the Best Self Defense for Seniors? Let’s talk Stun Guns and Pepper Spray
The world’s senior citizen population is growing with each new day and as a result we have petty criminals who will take advantage of this fact. You see to the common criminal, more seniors equals more potentially “easy targets” from which to rob. If you give your average scumbag criminal a choice between attempting to rob a 30 year old male and a 75 year old male, the vast majority of these criminals would no doubt prefer to try and rob the one they believe would give the least resistance, the 75 year old. At least that is what would reasonably be assumed as the average 75 year old is less apt to be able to fight back as would a 30 year old (as always I must note that there are plenty of exception to this rule but we are speaking about the “average” here).
So what is a self-reliant senior citizen to do to help ensure his or her own safety while roaming the streets? You could always carry a handgun (in states that allow you to do so). The only problem I see with this is EVERYTHING!!! Let’s not look to loaded deadly handguns as an option, okay? Great. Your next option would be to take a self-defense class. The problem with this is that it can take many many years to become proficient in any martial art and someone in their 80′s might not have the kind of time required to gain that proficiency and so that makes self-defense classes a somewhat unrealistic option. So what is the best option? How about a device that is both humanely non-lethal (unlike a handgun) and extremely effective at the same time. I’m speaking of stun guns and pepper spray.
Let’s discuss stun guns, which I think is the less likely option for most seniors, first and foremost. Stun guns are immensely effective and can be operated with very little training and require very little strength and coordination to utilize. The reason I am a little hesitant to suggest a stun device for seniors is because although they are deemed non-lethal they are still very dangerous if used incorrectly or turned against their user by an attacker. The high voltage, low amperage current of electricity is made all the more dangerous if the victim has the gun turned against them and is of an advanced age and possibly weakened heart. In some cases this could be fatally dangerous. So I am not against senior citizens carrying such a device but I think it would be best if the senior citizen was of very sound body.
Pepper spray is a form of self-defense that I think just about anybody could benefit from regardless of age. Pepper spray is also non-lethal and can be every bit as effective as a stun gun with a little less risk to its user. It takes almost no training to be able to point and shoot with a pepper spray device and as such even the frailest of users should be able to utilize a defensive spray in self-defense.
I hope this has been helpful.

Buy Personal Alarms for Seniors Citizens You Dont Hate
Do you know anyone above the age of 55 that you don’t hate? Would you rather any of these senior citizens that you know not be dragged down a dimly lit alley to be beaten and robbed of any cash and valuables? Would you not like to see any of these seniors that you know be taken advantage of or become the victim of a violent physical assault? Would you like to give these seniors an easy and affordable way to protect themselves? Would you like to make sure that the means by which you are helping them protect themselves be entirely, 100 percent safe and legal? If you answered yes to one or more of these questions than I strongly suggest you consider buying that senior citizen a personal alarm.
Personal alarms are ideal for just about anyone that wants to not be mugged but I really think they are useful for seniors as personal alarms are devices that are 100% safe and legal to carry at all times. Many come in the form of a keychain alarm that makes them much harder to forget at home when leaving the house. Personal alarms are wonderful because they offer an alternative, yet still highly effective, alternative to some more potentially dangerous forms of self-defense like handguns, tasers, stun guns, pepper sprays and steel batons. All of the aforementioned products are extremely efficient in stopping an assailant but could potentially lead to serious injuries or possibly even death. Personal alarms carry no such risk as they are not considered a weapon in any way shape or form (unless, I suppose, you throw the personal alarm at somebody). Personal alarms simply work by emitting a frightfully loud alarm which in most cases will do 2 things…
1) Scare the holy hell out of the assailant.
2) Alert everyone within bloody-murder-screaming distance that something bad is happening.
How loud does an alarm have to be to do this? Try 130 decibels (or even louder in some cases!). A very loud rock and roll concert is generally rated at about 120 decibels so imagine if you will a senior citizen walking down the street and some thug asking for their wallet and then a U2 concert starts blaring. Chances are pretty good that the thug is going to exit the area as fast as possible and if by chance the thug is deaf it won’t matter because anyone in the area is going to turn their attention to the scene of the crime in progress.

So please consider buying such an alarm for any seniors you care about.

Don’t Waste Your Money on Self Defense Classes for Seniors and Just Buy Pepper Spray
Wrestling, boxing, jiu-jitsu, karate, free-style wrestling, greco roman wrestling, muay thai, judo, tae kwon do and training and knowledge in every other style of physical combat are wonderful assets to have should you find yourself in a physical altercation. However these skills take a considerable amount of time and effort to hone and as such they are not as practical a means of self-defense as some of your other options. This is especially true for senior citizens who may not have the time, energy and physical ability to become as proficient in the martial arts as their younger counterparts. I find that a much more practical and efficient means of self-defense, especially for seniors, is pepper spray. One does not need to possess above average, strength, speed, agility or skill to use pepper spray and it can be every bit as effective, and in most cases more effective, than a black belt in many of the martial arts.
Much like a roundhouse kick to the face, muay thai knee to the ribs or a jiu-jitsu style armbar, a shot of pepper spray causes an immense amount of pain for any attacker. And unlike a roundhouse kick to the face, muay thai knee to the ribs or a jiu-jitsu style arm bar, a shot of pepper spray is far less likely to cause any long term effects, trips to the emergency room, permanent scars or pre-mature death because pepper spray works by causing immense but temporary pain. Another advantage that a defensive spray has over physical combat self-defense is the fact that one needn’t actually touch an attacker. This is immeasurably beneficial to many seniors as the average 75 year old woman is not looking to throw down with the average 25 year old low-life thug. In addition to causing an attacker pain, pepper spray swells the mucous membranes, which makes breathing difficult, and swells the veins in the eyes, causing the eyes to close. These effects can last up to 45 minutes but again cause no permanent damage.
So before you go spend hard earned money trying to perfect one of the many martial arts please consider spending a fraction of what you would probably spend on just one of those classes and invest in a small handheld canister of pepper spray. They are not only extremely affordable but entirely concealable and easy to carry. My own mother (who is a senior citizen thank you) carries her pepper spray on her key ring. My mother may not know Krav Maga or Sambo but she does know how to point and spray and that can be as effective as any martial arts.

Seniorz n the Hood: A screenplay about pepper spray and self defense for seniors
Scene 1 of 1
Setting: Nighttime. Suburban, middle-class, tree lined, park area. Nobody is around except for an elderly gentleman named Steve and a young hooded ruffian named Ice Pick. Steve is shuffling home from a night at his new lady friend’s house and Ice Pick is standing under a dimly lit street light, leaning on the light pole. Ice Pick stands about 6’4″ 240 pounds to Steve’s 5’6 145 pounds.
Ice Pick: Hey old man. Look here old dude, I’m a complete and utter scumbag and so tonight I thought I’d take a stroll down some dimly lit street and beat up someone much smaller and weaker than myself.
Steve: Well, young man, although I admire your honesty and straightforwardness, I can’t say as I’m in the mood to get the holy hell beat out of me.
Ice Pick: Hmmmm. That is unfortunate, isn’t it? Because I fully intend on bum rushing you and taking your wallet. I am going to find out soon enough but do you happen to have a watch or any jewelry of value on you?
Steve: I have my wedding ring and the Rolex I received after 30 years at my old job. Those are worth much more to me, both emotionally and financially than the 70 dollars cash in my wallet.
Ice Pick: Oh really? That is terrific news because aside from being a general loser and all-around scumbag I also have a pretty nasty meth habit. This is great, now I can just chill out at the local motel and melt my brain for a few days until the next time I come around seeking new prey to fuel my wicked drug habit.
Steve: Wow that is really sad, young man. I hope you find the help you need. Unfortunately I’m not going to be able to hand over my watch, ring or wallet. You see I also have in my pocket a small bottle of ultra-hot pepper spray.
Ice Pick: (clearly concerned but ready to call his bluff) Oh yeah? Well I’m not afraid of a little pepper spray. Seeing as I’m a big tough guy.
Steve: You seem like someone that isn’t all that smart but even you should know that me spraying you in the face with ultra-hot pepper spray is not going to be a pleasurable experience for you. We are talking about a spray that is rated at 2 million scoville units.
Ice Pick: Scov who?
Steve: Scoville units. It’s a unit of measurement to determine just how hot a pepper truly is. A habanero pepper for example measures in at about 150,000 Scoville units. Have you ever tried a habanero pepper?
Ice Pick: Oooh. Yeah those are hot. My eyes were burning and my nose was running eating one of those.
Steve: Yeah they are spicy, aren’t they? Well now imagine I was to take a pepper roughly 15 times a s hot as that and rub it in your eyes, nose, throat and lungs. How do you think that would feel, son?
Ice Pick: (with a pained and disgusted look on his face) You know what? I think I’m just going to go home.
Steve: That might be the best decision you made all day.
THE END
That was a gripping tale, wasn’t it? In all seriousness though I truly do believe that pepper spray is the very best means of self-defense for senior citizens, women, college students and just about anyone that doesn’t enjoy being mugged.

Note To Criminals: Do Not Mess With Senior Citizens That Carry Pepper Spray
Dear criminals,
We understand your plight, you need money to help fuel your insatiable appetite for drugs and alcohol and because you are morally and ethically bankrupt you would like to attain this money in the easiest and sleaziest way possible; by mugging the decent, hard-working, law-abiding citizens of this country. We also understand that when your depraved, conscious-less mind is choosing an individual to rob you would like an individual that is going to present the least resistance possible while you attempt to relieve them of their money and any valuables that they may have on their person. Senior citizens often fall into this category as they have naturally lost a bit of strength, speed and the general ability to defend themselves in a physical altercation. If we could offer just one bit of advice in this scenario, do NOT mess with a senior citizen that is carrying pepper spray.
See, pepper spray is a highly effective means of self-defense for seniors, women, men, students and just about anyone who doesn't enjoy handing over their wallets and/or purses to complete low-life strangers like yourself. Pepper spray's active ingredient is capsaicin, which is a chemical derived from the fruit of plants in the Capsicum genus, including chilis. It is basically just that, a spray made from peppers. Now when we say concentrated, we mean concentrated. The scoville rating system is a measurement used to measure the "hotness" of a pepper. For reference sake, a jalapeno pepper registers about 2,500-8,000 units on this scale, that's a pretty hot pepper. There is a pepper called the Naga Viper pepper that will absolutely destroy your mouth as it is one of the hottest peppers on earth and this bad boy packs about 855,000 scoville units. Eating one of these Naga Viper peppers raw could put you in a hospital or even worse. So how hot is the average pepper spray? Try about 5 million scoville units. How do you think that will feel in your eyes, nose, throat and lungs after some little old lady sprays you in self-defense? Let's just say it will have a significantly detrimental effect on the remainder of your day.
It would be in your best interest to steer clear of any senior citizen that may be carrying pepper spray on them. Now I know what you are asking, 'How do I know which seniors might be carrying a defensive spray in their purse or pocket?'. You don't. That's the beauty of pepper spray, it is easily concealable and amazingly easy to carry on your person at all times which makes it ideal for seniors. You also need no special skills or strength to operate a defensive spray device. I guess what we are trying to say is that you should probably not mess with anyone in general as you never know who may be carrying such a spray, as it is going to wind up being you that feels the pain, not them. Maybe it's time to go back to school and become a doctor.
Yours Truly,
Carl Vouer
